    First moto advice wanted

Well im turning 30 very soon and have decided one of my goals for that is i want to do a motor cross race.
a whole meeting but depends how body holds up.
newbie rider really, well to big bore stuff.
used to trail ride 2 smokers when i was at school.
been on a couple of tracks with just my mates but never full on raced.
they reckon i'd be about just behind mid pack if i was to go and race tomorrow.
what would be the best bit of advice you could give me?
i have not been on my bike for awhile as i hurt my back from falling off a bridge but it all good now and i know i need to start riding again before i go do it.
My mate said they planning a supercross meet on a saturday then a motor cross meet on the sunday which is where i'd prob cut my teeth and that'l be around late november.
    Roll on with the advice.

Its years since I raced motocross but the main thing I reckon is make sure you maintain gritty determination and don't let anyone intimidate you. Everyone wants the line so go for it too and if you have to bump shoulder to shoulder do it and don't let the other guys treat you like a wuss. i.e just keep your end up, don't do anything too stupid but don't let them push you round just coz you're a newb. Practice quick start reflexes too, you don't want to get lost at the back of the crowd at the start.

The other thing is the noise of all the other bikes drowns your own bikes noise so you've got to really get the hang of feeling your own bike - its vibes etc - so you'll always maintain optimum engine revs, right gear etc. I've seen a lot of people get lost in the excitement and stall in too high a gear around a turn or something in the opening lap when you're all on top of each other.
    Cheers

    Merv

    first of all have fun

get hold of your local club, (taranaki have a good club, awesome home track) , club president is David Furze, email him on dfurze@davidreidhomes.co.nz
talk to him and he will be able to tell you of local events, the final round of the nationals are thier this year, it will be good watching

you do not need tyo be agressivve in your first time out, i would reccomend starting of the back in the first race, then trying a mass start in the second,

and most of all have fun,

There's some very quick weekend racers out there so your mates may not be right!! You'll know soon enough though.

well i called one of the guys i ride with who races and you's are right.
    they are setting me up.
    pricks.
but it is good because now im more determined to get fitter.
been slowly losing weight now that i've given up rugby for good and no longer need the bulk.im resigned to the fact that i'l be at the back but i couldn't give a fuck really. i'l still enjoy it heaps.
i guess if im at the back im only a risk to myself and riders lapping me.
    roll on november.

haha, if you know your bike and watch out for the pileup that nearly always happens on the first corner and you'll be sweet.
