    Good gear saves your body

This is just a note for all you people that ride in Jeans and other non copatable gear.
Good boots and Leathers saved my body, lots of bruesing but no torn bark so If ya aint got good gear get some cos ya don't no when ya going to fall off. Armour in the right places helps to stop them bones getting broken aswell.

My jeans and cordura jacket are my incentive to slow down on the road.
I wear full leathers and back protector when racing though. I'm happy with the freedom to choose what I wear

I totally agree with the ride in the proper gear that you are promoting. Inline 4's body armour for riding his motocross bike was turning up on the afternoon of the 2nd November 2006 BUT he thought it would be okay to just go for a quick ride along the beach at Oakura in the morning.

If he had known that he would then spend the afternoon in ICU and then never get to ride again - he just may have waited for that gear to turn up

Don't ever get complacent, don't ever think it won't happen to me and don't ever think I am only popping out for 5 minutes ..... that's all it takes to ruin your whole life.

Riding without the proper gear is never

Good gear saved me when I took "flying" lessons

A combination of armour, leather and kevlar saved me heaps.
All I got from my prang was a broken ankle but my boots saved the bones from being displaced and made it a relatively simple injury, with a good, quick recovery, even for an old bugger.
To put things into perspective, I hit a car doing about 50 km and went in a forward dive onto the road. My left side took a thump but my knee armour saved me as did my kevlar palmed gloves.
When I was in A&E another guy came in with a broken ankle - tripped in the garden!! and needed surgery to insert a plate. (there must be a lesson there)

    Ain't that the truth!
I am sickened by the number of kids who ride scooters to school wearing skirts, open toed sandals, open face helmets and no gloves....but it comes down to personal choice I guess. I often give them the benefit of my advice...but they are teenagers, 10 ft tall and bullet proof, and I'm just an old wrinkly....

Good gear saves your arse along with any other parts of your body (including skin!) you value.

I cringe every time I see the guy on TV3's budgeting programme on his little yellow scooter. He's wearing a helmet, but nothing else to protect his person. That's not setting a good example for everyone else!

Bike looks proper munted, glad you're okay! Bikes can be replaced.

Yes it is true that my gear is ariving tomorrow.... (and yes it is also true that a lot of students are stupid). I once got rather badly abused verbally because i told one of them that she would not look so good in a miniskirt if she had no skin left.
