it's probably time we got back to the "damn those cyclists" thread again.
A universal dream of greatness is that
We push ourselves to the limit
Yet still be brilliant when the chips are down.
Sometimes , The struggle kills the dream.

Cutting it close Jim, pre 95 ducati service intervals were still 7,500 kms........

On a complete tangent, I bravely took a Buell Ulyses for a short spin on the weekend (I Know McJim, I gave you shit about this but I am involved in serious scientific research not a mere whimsical purchase)
and was pleasantly surprised......ducks to avoid BD hitting him....

Chassis aside, the motor was extremely tractable, fueling was better than my 900SS especially at low revs and there was adequate power. I had expected lots more vibration, shaking and general noise and yet it was easy to ride, good gearbox and just the right amount of noise.
Really nice detailing and engineering on the motor (I'm ignoring the Buell bit here, ok?) and certainly engineering that I would be proud of, yup, I can see the attraction with all of that now!
Can't say that the cruiser style of most Harleys does it for me but the Ulyses would certainly be on my list now and a good part of the attraction is the motor.

Not sure I'm ready for the tassels yet tho guys!

Q1. How do you Harley-type guys feel about filtering?
Q2. Do you find that your bars are too wide to go for the small gaps?
Q3. Doesn't sitting low (feet first), give you less of a view of traffic?
Q4. Do you get low speed, stability issues?
Q5. Do you worry about avoiding cars and still maintaining ground clearance?

I have only seen 1 Harley effectively cutting through traffic (but that was at stupid speeds).
Probably the answer to above could be gotten from any M109, Valkerie or Rocket 3 owner too - if anybody bothered to answer.

Had the pleasure of Oldguy's company recently for a short blat through the Hunuas. He's on a XB12R and I'm on a 600ss and the Hunuas are as full of corners as a pommegranite is full of seeds.

Fitness for purpose - two short wheelbase bikes with low range torque.

I'd definately like to get a Buell as well as the Ducati. I seem to have a bit of a cruiser mentality though since I don't really care about top end as much as normal sprotbike riders.

I just can't hold the classic cruiser seating position for long periods of time. Hurts my back - compresses my spine. Glad it suits others.

what I dont like 'bout Harleys is not so much the bikes but the anal guys riding them who are way to "cooL" to acknowledge other bikers, is its because if they took a hand off the bars they'd arse off ?

i have been riding for a long time now mainly jap and brit but also a little while on american and i don't think there is too much wrong with them at all. some mention the attitude of riders which is sometimes a bit stupid but each to their own. I was told by friends on harleys not to wave to other brands but i always did sometimes to piss them off but mainly because i don't give a shit what you ride. If harley riders don't want to wave who gives a shit they can be as narrow minded as they like i wave to anybody no matter what they ride. Just now and then a harley rider will wave back giving you hope that they are human after all. Hell i'll wave to a kid on scooter going 40 down our main road any encouragement is good.

    Let down by Harley Davidson?

I was up in Christchurch getting my scooter serviced and a warranty check on Monday, so I went for a look around the (plentiful) adjacent bike shops.

There were a lot of terrific bikes on display and I really got my fix for the day.

The only disappointment was "Harley Davidson".

    Why!

Because the bloody shop was closed and I could only look at them through the window!

There are some fantastic bikes available now, I sure wish they were so good while I was a young fellow!

Hmm, thinks and then again it may have been God's way of saying, live long, enjoy life and buy a Tiger in 2007.

Thanks to the great god of motorcycles, it was worth waiting for Cheers John.

PS: The Harleys still looked great even through the window!

Dunno where you got that impression. It wasn't from us. In fact there's a shitload of sportsbike riders who don't wave back.....

I'd wave or nod back to yah... I always enjoy myself, having fun... I wave or nod to all bikers, and do agree it is mainly the harley rides that don't acknowledge... at the end of the day I honestly don't care if the do or don't... but I agree with you it does make you smile when you get one back
