For the last 30,000km I Have been suuffering from severe head shake on the bike. Been getting me really worried.

I have had the wheel balanced,

Bought new steering head bearings,

played with the suspension.

All to no avail. It seemed to be getting worse and worse.

For the last two weeks I have bee running on a very bald front tyre (I know that is naughty as well as dangerous) until today, my monthly payday.

Took the bike to a motorcycle shop and had them put a new tyre on.

Mechanic calls me over and asks me if I have had the wheel off. When I say no he informs me that who ever last took it off had mounted it on the wrong way.

The only people who did this was the bike shop I had put the front tyre on all those kms ago.

Anyway bike is all back together and I get out on the road.

Bugger me there is no head shake.

I can actually relax my arms on the handle bars instead of hanging on for dear life. There is a bit of vibration but this is probably because of two things, the bar ends have been removed and the steering head bearings are now a little worn.

If anyone hear lives in the Pukekohe area I can thoroughly recommend the Full Throttle Motorcycles. A very friendly comnpany.

Yamaha dealers but happy to deal with my Suzuki.

Now the bike handles better I should really settle down and make it look prettier again.

quite a nice set up. Only the mechanic there, a real nice chap and real busy too.

Put the wheel on the wrong way. The tyre was OK. I have been pondering it and it must have put the alignment out by a fraction. Hence the wobble.

About 25,000 km on the front and 20,000 on the back. Always been good for tyre wear.

The bike still has a little bit of the wobbles. After 1 year the steering head bearings have worn. I will be replacing them this Sunday

Bike just peels off for the corners now. Stickes to the chosen line. No shudders, wobbles or threatened tank slappers. No more aching shoulders or sore wrists.

GIJoe you know the shop that did the original work. One of two, in what used to be our area. Seems to specialise in dirt bikes.
