    More grommit questions

Got some more newbie questions if anyone can help.

Has anyone used the cheap air filter oil from Repco, is it ok?

Where do you guys get cheap kerosene from, I remember someone saying something about this.

I've just noticed that my rear sprocket has worn a lot in the last few rides. I'm not exactly sure when but I guess it's happened in the last 12hrs of riding, and I was wondering if I have done something that could of caused this? Or another reason for this?

Lastly, I'm suffering quite a bit after a good ride at the base of my neck / in between my shoulders. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and manage to lessen it via moving the bars? Would moving the bars towards me (they are set in the middle at the mo), and higher help?

Any help would be great, thanks

    Kerosene:
Gas stations as a Genral rule don't carry it at the pump like the old old days.
Get it from Mini Tankers, Mays Road, Onehunga. Ph:622 2671. Last 20L cost me 50 bucks. They have chain lube (in a bottle not a spray can) and a few other items as well. Kero is damn good for a cleaning bath/bowl as well. I decant the old filter cleaning stuff for this. The kero/old filter oil mix makes a good cleaning solution. Leaves a nice oily film on the part or the bike. Just slowly tip off whats left leaving the sand behind in the filter cleaning container.

Haven't used the Repco air filter oil.

Sore shoulders??? Keep riding, get fitter, as long as your bars don't look way out compared to the other bikes. I went through it just takes time.

Worn sprocket. I read a warning on some web site or book that I have, that the biggest facter to worn sprockets and chains is, chain to tight. Even to the Manufacturers specs. If they say 25-35mm slack and you always tighten it to the minumim 25mm after every ride. You've got to much constant tension on. Take it or leave it but i'm a fussy guy thats always checking/cleaning things and I took this as a warning. Not to fuss and over tighten the chain everytime.

Shit I should get good bling for that!!!

    Thanks reckless, bling given lol.

I'll try to get some kerosene from there soon.

Sounds like you could be right with the chain tightness, as I read somewhere to run them slack for riding sand??? And I've been hitting woodhill a fair bit recently, maybe I'll slacken it.

Not so sure it's a fitness thing with the bottom of my neck, had a few problems with it after a car crash 10-12yrs ago. Just wondered if anyone else had experienced the same sort of thing and found a way to ease it.

Doesn't sound like the repco air filter oil is used much.

mmm, the sprocket does look alloy to me, I'll have to have a decent look tomorrow in the light. And yes it came with the bike.

Meh get to the gym. more than likely you are using muscles you've not used in a long time.

But could be bars, how tall are you and do you sit or stand?

6ft, and stand nearly all the time.

Don't think it's muscles or a fitness problem, it's the base of the neck where you can feel the vertibrae (spelling?) sticking out more. Think it's more of a riding position thing than fitness ect. Don't worry I'll sort that one myself.

I lifted the bars a bit ( bar riser kit ) & went to the physio a heap, got a ton of tips on posture etc , I sit lots for work, so make sure you have a good chair. Oh a light helmet is good to .

I've had 6 weeks off riding, so I'll see how it goes when I get back, but the neck had been good the last few rides.

Ok I think that your height could be a factor here. Get some bar risers and fat bars. I found lifting my bars that few CM helps alot. With your height you are probably stooping alot and got your neck at an odd angle. I've got a set of bars and risers if you're interested.
