I'm going to have to be a grumpy bugger and say the badge is pretty cheap looking compared to my other one from 3-4 years ago. Plus the pin has fallen off the badge itself just by looking at it!
So were you my friend, so were you!
Roll on the next one.
Winding up drongos, foil hat wearers and over sensitive KBers for over 14,000 posts...........![]()

Now i will tell you what i've done for you!! 50,000 tears i've cried, screaming, decieving and bleeding for you and you still won't hear me don't want your hand this time i'll save myself maybe i'll wake up for once.........
Sorry this will be long, but it will the last time I bother you. Here is what I wrote for the Clutha Leader (which came out on Thursday). I hope it is at least vaguely interesting for some of you. Cheers, Caro.
"Wilsher Bay near Kaka Point turned into a temporary flourishing town at the weekend when the annual Penguin Motor-Cycle Rally took place. Almost 700 bikers arrived from all over the South Island, as well as two people from Australia and one from Japan attending. Tents, bikes, a smattering of cars, music, marquees, fires and the sale of various goods, including tee-shirts, drinks, the Owaka Lions barbeque food, pop-corn and other snacks all combined to turn the normally deserted paddock into a pulsating mass of people and vehicles.
Held on the warmest day of the year so far, the rally takes people on country roads throughout Otago and Southland as the riders converge on Wilsher Bay. A cold sea breeze in the early evening of Saturday spoilt the balmy feel but a trio of fires and plenty of animated conversation more than made for that. Organiser Pete Davey said they had generally alsways been lucky with the weather. He gave a lot of credit to the Lions who run the bar and barbecue for the event and have about 30 members on hand to help. He said the Lions then donate some of their profits to a community in Kaka Point looking after the domain. “There is no council finance for the domain. We put in the power cables and lights oursleves and clean the toilets when needed.”
As well as an array of bikes, there were also three wheeled trikes. Yvonne Ross, from Gore, said her VW Trike was bought recently on Trade Me from a Timaru seller, and had proved a brilliant buy. “It was for my birthday and is quite a family thing. We can take the kids out on it.” She said they went on several South Island rallies and were married at the March Hare one near Waimate this year. The Penguin Rally she rated as casual and friendly and one of the larger ones held.
A bikers’ website had very favourable comments about the Penguin Rally. One said, “Kaka Point continues to be a very favourite place of mine in NZ, the coast to greet my weary eyes this morning was stunning, once I was able to focus.!! All in all, a fab fun time was had, the contained lit area with the fires are always a great way to keep everyone sociable. So thanks to the organisers, a wonderful job was done, guys and girls.” Even more enthusiastically another said, “Awesome weather, Awesome Southern hospitality Awesome people, Awesome ride ... yeah my weekend was OK Best weekend I've had in ages, I look forward to a repeat next year.
Mr Davey said Peter Duff of Balclutha made a DVD of the event which will be available for sale in three weeks’ time. Those interested can phone him on 418 0882."
pretty good summary of the event. I have to say the Lions did an excellent job of the food!![]()
