    R80 wont start!

My dad's R80 won't start. It turns over, everything seems fine, but wont start.

Bikes, in neutral, etc, etc. Any suggestions?

Tell us more - had it been running or was it sitting around for years?

Have you checked the usual things - is there enough fuel, chicken switch on etc.
    Cheers

Provided you keep the battery well charged and if the bike sits around a while drain the carb and let fresh fuel flow before you even try to hit the starter button.

HI, he got the bike started this afternoon, after sitting in the garage for a week. Rode a 100m's then it just "gradually" died - similar sound as decellerating.

Fuel tap on? Enough fuel in the tank or should it be on reserve? Was it going alright up until a week ago?
    Cheers

Just bought it last week in Whangarei. Rode it back, didn't miss a beat. Switched off and started a few times when in Auckland - driving around etc. all ok.

I was responding about DR650 then, I've never owned a BMW, but the Jap bikes like a DR have a screw on the side of the bottom of the bowl of the carb you can just loosen a bit and let the fuel flow through, then tighten it up and away you go.

You say its got plenty of fuel, did he fill it again in Auckland to be sure because it sure sounds like carbs with no fuel in now?

Yes, filled up in auckland. Same thing I have been thinking. Seems like fuel getting to carbs, but somehow not getting to cylinders...

Yes, funny thing is being a boxer engine, you'd think maybe one of the cylinders will kick over... Just does not add up

fuel filter might be stuffed and crap might be getting thru to carb and blocking jets, might just need a good clean out
