Yep that's the key right there
On all our rides @ every intersection we all regroup & if on the main road for a long distance we regroup constantly, yesterday roughly every 20km's or so as Mike was on his new Ducati which is well done on power compared to everyone else but is also a bit of a nanna![]()
Looks like fun was had by all & everyone made it home safe n sound, the only fatality being a rear foot peg, not bad lol![]()
To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and to endure the betrayal of false friends. To appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded
An awesome ride with great company. Hopefully the first of many. Am loving the idea of the Whangamomona ride.

Well I just picked my arse off the couch. Damn crook this morning. I am not sure if it was the riding in the rain yesterday or the alcomohole that was consumed when I got back here. Things got a little out of hand.
In any case it was entertaining having Cinnamon on the back of the bike. It is only the second time she has been on the back of the bike and the first time was about 20km so I wasnt really sure how she would go. She really enjoyed herself on the back waving to cars and enjoying the ride which is great. neither of us enjoyed that "shower" of rain which was a bit of a shame that we hit it and we made it down to waioru before she started mentioning that her legs were getting sore. (One day I will get old and buy an old mans bike for comfort). In true biker-to-be fashion she carried on without complaint.
Ride brief was to get up to Hawera with no stops (stopped in feilding, halcombe, turakina, and wanganui. Meet guys in Hawera which we did then carry on to Waitara. The old switcher round the block hide the RF trick from Yod got a little confusing. There goes 20 mins waiting for someone to catch up who is already in front of you.
So a regoup in Inglewood (which was actually needed to give Yod a bollocking) and then off to waitara. Regroup at SH3 was needed as we were going into waitara and I was the only one who had any idea where we were going and I wasnt real sure of that either. GPS MAP came in handy for once. So Pick up girl and then into main street in Waitara for another regroup. Then out north through messenger and an attempted regroup at top of messenger but I had just got past 3 very slow cars and I wasn't stopping to let them get in front again. So regroup at awakino. Then on to pio pio for lunch.
Up to 8 mile and a regroup there then down to Tamuranui and regroup there. Yod tried the "hide the RF the long way round" again at the oakune turnoff so another regroup, then regroup in oakune, waioru, top of vinegar hill (damn girl. Dont really want to pick on you too much but if you can't see a Ginger ZZ Top lookalike waving his hands on the side of the road there is something wrong)
Regroup at bottom of vinegar hill and then home.
So I dont think the regrouping is the problem. Mainly having a general idea where you are going might help and a look at a road sign every now and then.
I was getting a little nervous about making the 12 oclock deadline to Waitara considering we left at 8 (8.04 actually even though I said I was leaving at 8) and it takes me a little under 3 hours to make the trip in a car. We scraped in at just under 4 hours! Anyhow, no harm done and we did make it so that is fine but may explain some of the statistics that came out of the ride.
From my GPS.
distance 684km
moving time 6 hours 54 mins
avg speed while moving 98.9km/hr
time stopped 4 hours 8 mins
avg speed overall 61.8km/hr
attached map of where we actually went.

Stoked that you guys did this run.
Lots of nice country to see, and traffic wise, its reasonable.

yup...very happy we did this ride again - crap weather on the return run was well worth it to get through mt messenger, awakino and 8 mile again - those are sublime roads
and of course, a dusk dash through vinegar hill is always a treat tooalthough i was pretty tired and sore by then....
looking forward to the next one

Just saw a post "Auckland labour weekend" and thought it might be time to ask the question if anyone has given any thought to OR has any ideas about a Labour weekend ride?
Edit: just thought....Thats not the date of Dogs two day ride is it?
I thought you would get into Waitara way before 12,mind you when you all left at about 10.45 thought it'll be tight.Get used to thinking Hawera to Inglewood 35 mins,Inglewood to Waitara 20 mins. Also Palmy to Hawera easy 1 3/4 hours so thought maybe 2 3/4 hours-3 hrs, allow say 20 mins break along,no probs.Mind you with the group with you just fuelling up could take a while.Thought after you left hope you don't miss Waitara turn off, which is easy to do if not reading the signs, and travelling quickish.Good to see the weather was correct, bugger, thought the showers might stay away, must get my arse over to Awakino etc, good road in the car, bike would be fun.Still seemed organised well enough from my view,I turned off by the racecourse to go home, went round a back street home and nearly met a cop on wrong side of the street, almost kicked his door, just as well wasn't speeding on my part(35km)or so,but fark you don't expect to see a cop car driving usa style as you go around a "T" intersection.
