I hear you on that. I almost became insane enough to come join you. The fact that I knew you were going made it REALLY hard to chicken out.

I gave it a blat around in the rain and decided that while i have just got my new oilskin draggin jeans (yay! beats standard jeans anyday) it was just too slick for this poor sap.

What a pain, i'm really looking forward to meeting a few of you guys... hopefully next week!

P.s. i expect a whole lot more butt-wiggling from Phoenixgtr this week

Was it old and stretchy and showing the signs of needing replacing or did it go with out warning?
Mine is showing signs of being that time. I have one on the way, sprockets too of course.
Was going to try get a few more kms out of them but starting to wonder is it worth the risk of a potential failure if I push it too far.

Good to meet Mikkel. I was all dressed snug warm and water resistant, as we departed I said I might just go home since it was raining, Mikkel says why... I thought about it a bit while putting helmet and gloves back on and decided he was right.

My ride went down Colombo up Dyers Pass to the que at the road work traffic light.
Bugger it I thought, so I angled right, went over the curb through the little car park and out on to the Summit Rd, a glance in the mirror saw the cars still waiting as I rounded the bend out of sight on my way to Gebbies.
Got to Gebbies with the intention of going back via the Tunnel and decided bugger it again and turned right then left at the bottom and cruised in to Little River.
Little River, well, I couldn't stop now so off in to the slightly muddy Western Valley Rd where I started encountering various small animals on the road, both live and dead, also several groups (not enough to call a flock) of sheep and even a cow standing in the middle of the road, actually when I went round the cow I hadn't even reached the dirt bit yet.
Got off the shingle and dirt after a big grin run at about 8:05pm and followed the bays to the Tunnel then home about 9pm.

Got to say I throughly enjoyed my little adventure.
Good on ya Transalper - that's the spirit! Glad you got around to a nice ride after all. If I hadn't had my girlfriend waiting for me to bring home the dinner I'm sure I'd have gone for an hour more or so.

wow as many as that huh? I didn't think we got quite as much as that... guess that why we feel so closed in when it rained for more than a day

Hah, yeah i just moved here to CHCH at the beginning of Feb. The weather changes a lot less here than in Auckland.

Sure, while it means one or two events might get rained out at least the weather stays doing the same thing for more than 2 hours. When its dry, its dry.

Bizarre facts are what I specialise in. My XB12X is still in Wellington, and it will be down here later this month. I did some research for my company in regard to rain and the results I outlined above gobsmacked me.I came down from Auckland 4 or 5 years ago, and it struck me how many people said "It ALWAYS rains in Auckland." This is regularly followed by "The garden could do with some rain." Go figure. Anyway, when my bike gets down here I want to get out and use it so I'll be checking out anyone who wants a ramble. Does anyone know wnayone with a Buell down here? I ain't seen many.

as dangerous says... yep there are a few down here, even more around Timaru way. I bought mine from High country Motorcycles in Fairlie, he has lots of USA and European bikes, so a fair few Buells have come thru him into sth Island, NZ
And Its MY bike dangerous keeps pinching even tho he is a guzzi man

and yeah there will be 4 of us heading to the Buell rally mid november at St Arnaud (nelson lakes area), doing a wee tiki tour of the sth island first for the week beforehand. The other 2 are buellbabe from auckland (an old mate of mine whos been a Bueller for many years) and AJturbo (a recent Buell convert) from wgtn.
Will def catch you around in chch cometime anyway
