    Tall riders.... opinions needed...

Yo i am 6 foot 4 and built heavy enough to bottom out any 250cc. I currently have learners on a katana 250 and will be up tot he test in a few weeks. Dew to my height with the kat after about 20 min riding i get pain in ankles and after about 30min cramps. What bike do i go for after i have restricted? It should not be tooo hard to get an exemption from the 250 rule given my size. I am almost thinking a thousand that has been calmed down by a mechanic. What do you guys thing?
    Thanks

Heya mate, good to meet ya last night. I don't know about road bikes or riding you want to do, but theres always the Motards like the DRZ400 which have an upright riding position which may suit you and the motards are always fun through the twisties but arn't suited to highway cruisin although they will do it.
"I came into this game for the action, the excitement... go anywhere, travel light,... get in, get out,... wherever there's trouble, a man alone... Now they got the whole country sectioned off; you can't make a move without a form."

Paved roads are just another example of wasted tax payer dollars.

I got an exemption for anything up to 800cc since i'm 6 ft 3. Doubt they would let u get a thousand thou. Plenty of good sized bikes under a thou. Just go sit on a few in the shops and find out. I decided a more upright position was the way to go and my knees love me for it

GSXR750 is an awesome bike under 1000ccc but any sports bike will feel cramped at your height. I felt a bit squeezed on my former sports bikes at over 6ft 1.

good to meet you to. Yea i prefer the sport bike style.
Will go around the tga dealers and sit on a few. I could almost get a nice old katana 750.... (altho they are not alot bigger than my current kat)

For the time you are doing your restricted a street legal trail bike would be more comfortable - upright sitting position and longer suspension. Once you have your full licence look at European or American bikes - they tend to be better for bigger riders. Most of the Triumph range are good for taller riders (and particularly the Tiger)
Experience......something you get just after you needed it

cool. Do you think it would still be best to get the exemption?

It is easy to apply.... so just go for it if you want to pay the fee. Otherwise it doesn't take long to wip through the licences and sit the full if you are old enough and have a Defensive Driving Cert.

    Hey,

I'm 6'5" and fat (or as you but it, "built heavy"), I was riding around on a GSXR 1000 K1 recently that was a pretty decent fit... great sportsbike but still big enough to be comfortable.

For a newb like yourself I'd say stay away from the thousand, but K1 - K3 GSXR 600 would give you enough leg room, plus still be powerful enough to shift a bit of weight.

Anything after 02 - 03 starts getting smaller and more cramped, so you'd be better looking at slightly older bikes, but at least they're cheaper
