I started a part-time job two days a week at the start of this month. Spent the first two days reading their website (noted all the errors - NINE handwritten A4 pages of them!) and all the old correspondence. Bored shitless both days. Was told there would be training, but found out the following week that I am IT - no one else in the office works for this organisation and all the committee members are volunteers who work for their own businesses! The following week they sent me to an industry conference where I was bored shitless for two more days, and got food poisoning to boot!

I sit opposite a student intern who uses one of those ridiculous Swiss ball chairs - and she bounces on it non-stop, which irritates the shit out of me!

Have started looking for another job to replace it already!
Yes, I am pedantic about spelling and grammar so get used to it!

Oh shit! Talk about getting a rough deal...

I think we've all experienced a misrepresentation in the advertising of a new position (heaven knows I've had my fair share)...

So I guess the real question becomes, do you then move straight away or is it worth sticking around for? Moving sucks as it looks bad on the awesome piece of "highlight of my life as an employee" aka CV...

I'm lucky to have finally found an employer who looked at my history and asked "why?" and I said that I get bored easily...
So, every week, he checks that I have enough work, and if I don't, then he goes around the offices and makes sure he finds me something. Nine times out of 10 though, I've already gone round and found stuff for myself anyway, but I like the fact that he looks after me that way. It makes me feel valued as a an employee and I don't see myself moving any time soon if the situation remains like this.

This place is a joke to be perfectly honest with you. After having nothing to do for the last three weeks they pile the work on me yesterday afternoon to have it done for this morning. I worked to 11pm last night (not that I'm complaining its work) to make sure that everything was ready to be checked this morning so I can proceed with paying people. Only to be held up by my assistant because she is busy making muffins!!!! I now have nothing to do until things have been checked by her and when I told her this she looked dumbfoundingly at me and proceeded with her baking...... Surely this isn't a town thing? That people are on slow mood 24/7?

Tell that assistant to DO HER FKN JOB!!!! You can do the baking....
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Well...perhaps, but you obviously need some guidance in how things are 'supposed' to work...
Your boss kicks your arse to get something done. If you have an 'assistant', then you pass the arse-kicking down the line. Get with the program, girl....

You reply 'Not yet, I'm not'.
Seriously, you need to get that cow into line if she is supposed to be your assistant. Meeting time with your boss to clarify who reports to who.

We had lots of nerdy programmer types in my last job who used thoise (the company provided them to anyone that wanted them), including one who sat opposite me. Yup, he drove me nuts too, as he also used to poke his tongue out and chew on it.
My how I did larf (or would've, if I had a sense of humour) when the Bouncing NerdDweebGeeks fell off their balls. It was even better when one of the bungs came out

As for the "bored shitless" bit - I know Eggs Zachary how you feel. I had WAAAAY too little to do in my last job, and 30 or more hours a week of browsing the Interdweeb gets very tedious and dissatisfying. It was responsible in part for my depression, and why I really needed to change jobs.
This one is better, but still not busy enough (hence my current onlineness...)
I found that reviewing my work (though boring) helps to pass the time. There's always corrections or enhancements I can make. Plus my boss gave me this stupid pharking book to help me (even though I pointed out that I've managed without any formal training for last umpty-squillion years). It's called "The Art of Technical Documentation", and it's bollocks.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

my last job was 100% on site, about the same work load (although you had to do nothing for 9-12hrs a day not 8 like an office) and being on site ment we could go do WHATEVER we wanted, as long as we had a cellphone, 3hr lunches were the norm, poker, beer, movies you name it we did it _b
rofl... sounds like fun. though I'd get bored too...

I don't think I could handle an office job either... I'm the type who likes hands on and dirty work...

though, I guess I could work in an office if there were lots of little things to be done, monotonous stuff keeps you busy... like stamping millions of files, and organising them, and entering data into things etc...

They have some advantages though - like when you go to talk to someone sitting on one, it's REALLY annoying for them if you accidentally kick the ball with your shoe...
And they're easy to move around the office when you're walking around and one rolls in your way and you don't notice it...
