Another SNAFU - Situation Normal Another F@#$Up

it is common courtesy to let people know if you are leaving a group ride. It doesnt take much. In the scernario you talk about above I would text the lost rider and wait a while before going looking for them.

We had an interesting time recently on a ride where a rider missed a turnoff. a heap of us saw him miss the turnoff so we waited at the interestion for his return hoping he would notice that no one was behind him. He did realise but instead of back tracking he made 2 right turns to get onto the road he was surposed to be on but unfortunately he ended up in front of half the group ( half the group carried on to the next stop). So we were left waiting on the side of the road for someone who was actually in front of us. Sent a text saying we would wait at next stop and carried on. Was very surprised to find him waiting at the next checkpoint for us..

I'd ride back down the intended route and take a cellphone if in range or another rider to get help if needed.... just in case.

We all have each others phone numbers and txt rather than call because no one answers their phone when on the bike. So if you find yourself all on your lonesome first port of call is to check your phone to see what is going on. We did send a rider out to scout but the problem with that is it can take a long time to catch up if you are following someone. If they are behind you it is not so bad but still would prefer to wait rather than backtrack, especially on a country road that the bikes *may* be using both sides of the road. There was a case where I was out front and found myself all on my lonesome. Stopped for a while to see if everyone was going to catch up to find them not coming so I crawled back to find a crash. Not ideal at all.

I do try and pick off riding companions that I trust will look after themselves on the road and ride within the limits to keep everything together though. It is all well and good riding in a group but that doesn't mean babysitting everyone.

The point would be to make it clear if they're in or out? Are they going home (riding on their own) or as the TEC still?

If he hadn't said that he was riding home with me or the group and he didn't look like he was trying to stay with me in my mirrors then I wouldn't give it a second thought and carry on.

If he had said something like "I'll follow you home", on such a short ride I'd probably wait for less than a minute or two before going back to make sure he was OK.
