Just got back a half hour ago after coming back Kopu-Whangamata-Waihi (love that road), plenty of sport bikes out today with not much traffic, was a bloody good trip, 560kms for me, really enjoyed it.

Dino3310, the soft bait worked great, but the kingies were too big to bring home on the bikes so we let them go again.

Edit: Had an awesome 2 day trip up the Corro loop, went to Thames and met Tiboy, then right up to Fletcher bay at the end of the road, camped there, then back out to Corro town, over the 309 highway, down to Corroglen, then onto Tapu past the square kauri, did 550kms, something like 250kms on the gravel.

One start is that the DOC farm at Fletcher Bay has a farmworkers' house now used as a hostel, which can accommodate 18 or so people as well as having a good kitchen. You can book in advance, though when we go there for fishing from our kayaks, it's usually OK if you just arrive on a Friday night (and other folk arrive in early hours of Saturday mornings in the summer, as well...).

Next, you go back down the road and then up the other side to Stony Bay, where there's another DOC campground, though tenting only at that one. More fishing, but a bigger walk around the rocks to get to it, rather than just at the point as at Fletcher Bay.

Depends how much riding per day you want to do once you're up at the end of the peninsula.

Hey, Triboy and Deanohit, aren't the 2-piece softbait rods just great for bike-based fishing?

And thanks for the vid. I am almost of a mind to knock off work now and just go.

    Cheers.

Well yea, they are handy, pity the fish weren't biting, not even a stray Kahawai was to be found. Still sat on the rocks for an hour or so, I didn't put a whole lot of effort into it as it was just so relaxing sitting there after a great ride.

    Working on it.
Also, just got off the phone to a mate on Waiheke who managers two vineyards, and is happy to help sort accom AND private Vineyard tours
Also a weekend at Gt Barrier wouldn't go amiss.
don't forget the WWW ride on 30/11-2/12, so there should be enough happening this Summer to wear out tyres, and riders.
Welly rides, and Auck/Nthern also please see if you can knock a couple of rides together.

nice video Deanohit. Wat camera setup are you using?

Does your 200 sit ok at 100km/hr? Our ones are revving their tits off at 80 but maybe they run different gearing?

It's just my digital camera sitting on a cheap tripod fixed to the bars, needs perfecting, but it works for now.

Yea, empty it sits on 100 ok going with traffic, usually I cruise about 90 though if the road is traffic free as the bike feels WAY more relaxed. I'm never in a hurry to get some where and am happy riding my own ride though. me most of the time!

A few years ago we rode over the MB track from Stoney Bay to Fletchers. A bit dramatic coming down off the hills. Not sure if it possible to get permission but it was a great ride. At the time we had a Transalp, our friends a road going Yam. The road is marked on the maps as a paper road but I think that bikes are now discouraged from using it.

Yeah, I understand that the farm lessees are not that keen on too much public use (for obvious reasons), and the track does not actually follow the paper surveyed road all that well, so they can keep the public off it.

They can keep people off the track, but they can't stop people driving through the paddocks where the paper road is...

Whats wrong with the scoot? Would be just the thing to do it on, just think of how many 12 packs fit under the seat!!

Yea mate, heaps of fun on the smaller bikes, atleast you don't have to go 100kms to get to the loop, I've done 1500kms on mine in 3 weeks!!! I need a bigger bike.
