Positive experience with bike insurance company

I had to get full insurance for my bike as it was security for a loan I was getting. Had to go to Napier for this as I bank with a credit union. Stupidly I thought no problem, get rid of my guarantor (a girlfriend) and as I had been a member of the AA (Automobile Association) for nigh on (gulp) 20 years - to find they don't insure motorbikes - they MIGHT if I had house contents insurance so I said I would have $2,000 worth of that - ah No the minimum was $15,000. Crikey I only own a bed, dining room table and chairs and a couch - don't have fancy things like a tv, dvd or fancy stereo system. I have the basics and that is all I need! For that privilege they would charge me about $500 then there would be the bike insurance on top. Definitely not a viable option. Meantime spoke to guarantor who was happy to continue the arrangement - rang bank - all documentation was based on bike insurance they had deleted her completely off the system. I wouldn't know what it is like for something to go smoothly - it has never happened in my life!! But I'm obviously the eternal optimist cos I don't think now what could go wrong.

So I thought I will ride home and get on the laptop and search KB for bike insurance. Well it so happened that the Hawkes Bay experienced high winds and closed Takapau Plains - I must admit I rode from Napier to Hastings - all of 20 minutes and thought fark this. I felt I had absolutely no traction on the road so got to stay with a friend in Hastings that nite.

The journey home the next day was challenging with the high winds! Got onto KB and there were several recomendations to ring Tim on this 0800 number - which I did - turned out to be John Baker Insurance. Now I had had an accident last year on my bike and written it off - advised all this, explained the odd speeding ticket or two - and was given a quote of $550. This is even better than my premiums with Swan Insurance who I had been with for 5 years and who tried dicking me around big time when I had a legitimate claim. (Same or less insurance amount on the bike too). The Insurance Certificate was emailed to me within the hour - forwarded it to my bank and I could draw down the loan. Quick, friendly service and $200 cheaper than anywhere else.

I am with state as well, total fill insurance for me was just under 200 a year, but i only have a hyosung 250 insurance amount is $7395

KiwiBike just got me comprehensive cover from Swann on a GSX-R1000 K2 worth $10K, $250 excess, $850 per annum premium. Includes trackdays.

Not too bad in my books.

They apply a $1,000 excess if you haven't held your full licence for more than two years, and they don't cover trackdays.

I use them for all my other vehicles, house and contents, but not motorcycle insurance, for the above reasons.

I have found in the distant past that State have good premiums. Just don't ever try and make a claim though, they are the worst company at putting things right.

Like a six month old car that was off the road for 8 months getting repaired. Then to find that the repairs were carried out with second hand parts (at State's insistence), and once completed, the car was only just road worthy.

Hey good to see you at our lunch yesterday Shirl and good to hear about the insurance. I have all our five bikes insured with Bakers under the Ulysses Club deal and that is good place to deal with.
