    Anja and Holger from Germany

    Hi,
are on our trip around the world and the next destination is New Zealand. Maybe you have some tips about nice roads and the country for us.

Yep there are plenty. Start at one end and ride to the other end. Then turn around and ride back. There are no autobahn's here just roads.
They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the evening,
    we will remember them

We sure do! How long are you staying for, and at what time of the year, and are you only interested in riding on sealed roads, or are you happy to explore gravel roads too?

The whole place is lovely. How long you are here for will dictate how many roads you can do. Must do's are - Northland, Coromandel, East Cape, West Coast (South Is) and the alpine passes
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

All of the above answers! Tell me though, what will you be riding when you get here? Are you bringing a bike? or are you planning on buying/hiring one?

Wot they all said! You will be constantly thinking you've taken a wrong turn and have ended up on some back country lane, but that's just State Highway 1! We have two different islands here and the North is very different from the South.

Be warned, though! By the time you leave you will already be planning your next trip as you will realise you needed twice the time you have allocated!

    NZ is a biker's paradise!

oh, that's fast. Are planning to stay for about 3 months. Bikes should arrive in Auckland Nov 27th and we hope to get them as fast as possible out of the customs.
We are interested in all kind of roads and Anja for beautiful landscapes.

    Wow, how exciting.

I live in Hamilton just south of Auckland if you need anything give me a call, my wife and I are happy to give you a meal a bed if you need it could muster up a few local riders and have a BBQ maybe. I also have a adventure bike so could show you a few rides up north if you like.
Drop me a PM if you want

Take a look in book shops for the two books on this link http://www.mcycle.co.nz/books.htm

They're both by Peter Mitchell - one is the NZ Motorcycle Atlas (for use as a navigation map) and the other is for help planning your trip, deciding where to stay and what to do.

One of the best things I can suggest is hang out here on KiwiBiker and take up people's offers to show you their local roads. We like to think we're a friendly and hospitable bunch

If you're both on Dakar's they will be about perfect and three months sounds about right.

As Quasi said, you'll have many offers of places to stay and riders to show you the best roads around each region.

As for beautiful landscapes, every corner you go around! Especially in the South Island!

We live in Warkworth just north of Auckland, and that would be my husband and I, from me, but the message is the same.

    Just dont...

Get all bent out of shape if you see something that is not acceptable/illegal in Germany.

Had a bad experience couple of years ago on the ferry between Nth and South Islands with a couple of bikers from Germany got all stressed when they saw some dork that had some German military hat on. Made a huge thing about it on the ferry, got the cops involved. The guy was a few sausages short of a Barbie but hey he was NOT breaking our laws eh

That said, welcome and enjoy. As the other folks say. This is the best biking country in the world (South Island especially)

    Cheers

working on a route round the South Island at the moment with about 2000+ kms of gravel & off road riding, bits of tarseal now and then. Should have this finished in a few days. We have amazing scenery, the Dakars will be perfect (probably what we will be riding too) ciao Chris

    Hi,
thanks for answering so fast and all of your tips.

@Klingon I might find them in a bookstore in Auckland

@xgnr not all of them but some (I have met some too). You'll find strange people everywhere (I think) but a really strange story

@ MVnut that sounds very interesting
