    GSX-R1000 fuel economy - I'm impressed

I filled up the K2 yesterday after using up a tank around town, a bit of filtering through rush hour and a bit of time on the motorway, no open road riding.

268km on the trip meter, and it took 15.5L.

    That's 17.3km/L, or 5.8L/100km.

Pretty impressive for a 140+hp machine. I must say, I expected far worse.

Of course, at less-moderate speeds on the usual closed private roads, that efficiency drops somewhat. But, still, it's nice to see that a 1000cc inline-four monster can be a reasonably efficient commuter if you treat it right.

If you actually use your 140hp, you'll need more gas

    But of course.

I'm saying, it's impressive that Suzuki can make a 140hp engine that also works efficiently when you're only using a third of its ponies.

My 79 CB does something similar, trouble is that technology should be better than that, it doesn't really seemed to have improved that much in the last 30 years, but I think the focus has been on power rather than economy...

    gas in = horses out.

i think, otherwise somebody would make a engine that ran on rubbish and creates foward movement in the form of dreams.

    Incorrect.

Gas in = (horses out + waste heat + incompletely combusted hydrocarbons).

Getting the 'horses out' term of that equation as high as possible in relation to the other two across the entire range of an engine's operating conditions is the trick.
