there are no tunnels? are you refering to the bridges?

ive been droped down a 13m pile hole (2m dia i think) that was fun, a bit unsafe as they didnt have a gas tester to test if there was any poisins down the hole, they didnt tell me about that until AFTER i'd been down!

I know it was a bit of a pisstake at RM, (and I really hate stiking up for him, honest) but it is unfortuntly Auckland Regional Council Regulations, unless you get down on your hands and knees and give the prick that gives out winter earthworks consents a good polishing.

Fuck the ARC take all the fun out of digging dirty great big wholes and knocking shit over dont they.

For the record Qkkid was in my bed, not the other way round

Funny you mention that. I was reading the other week about why NZ projects are so expensive and Europeans can build awesome shit for a tenth of the (adjusted of course) cost.

RM there are some tunnels hiding somewhere I'm sure. And didn't you know if there are no CO2 meters in enclosed spaces it's still accepatable practice to stuff small animals into holes instead?

    Here's a bridge.

    Here's a bridge.
That's the SH1 north extension, between Puhoi & Orewa. Quite impressive it is too. They must've dug the tunnel entirely from one side as the other end comes out halfway up a cliff-face to a bridge that doesn't meet up with it yet

Is that why they sent RM down there first?

i think the greenhite section had 3 taniphas (sp?) on it, the rumor was it cost 50k each to get rid of them.

and yeah theres no tunnles on the bit i worked on, its cool to see how they build bridges tho, they drill the piles (as current ground level is close to final bridge level) then place the bridge down. then way later they actuall dig out the muck under the bridge. sorta liek the oppersite way you think about it.

oh and we found a decent size ship burried in there.

Apparently some naughty people have been moving the cones aside and using the green bit as a secret speedway after dark

It's incredible to see how they built the Auckland Harbour Bridge. They put hollow piles down, then lowered men inside the piles and they dug the mud out by hand, way below sea level. They used to have to come up slowly so they didn't get the bends. All the mud was brought back to the surface in buckets.

Go to this page http://www.transit.govt.nz/road/AHB.jsp scroll to the bottom and take a look at the 1951 - 1971 document. Hair-raising stuff!

it was some cargo thing that got burried under about 5m of dirt. Nothing speical, those guys who dig up old stuff came had a look at it but they said it was pretty common.

there was a tiny little creak where we found it, it must of been alot bigger about 50 years ago!
