Got an interesting extra with my new tyres...

Cyclespot sold me a pair of tyres. I thought they were a bit pricey at over $10k, but they did come with some other stuff attached.....namely a 2006 VFR800

    It's a luuuuuverly machine I must say!

I had owned it for 2.5 hours or so when the mods started....first thing was to release the mighty V4 howl from the confines of a restrictive exhaust system!

    IT. SOUNDS. GOOD.

How did you achieve that? The pipes look standard.
The F-117 will need that mod at some stage.

I've learnt to hide the pain inside, open the throttle and ride away.

Nice one dude... just make sure you don't end up spending another $10k on your next set of tyres!

    Why yes..... yes they do!

I researched what others have done and it turns out the VFR has a very easy to mod exhaust (6th generation model does, at least!)

There is a very easy to remove plate that means the last chamber of the muffler is bypassed. People have done dyno checks and so on, (well according to the internet which has never ever been known to lie) and it doesn't have a negative effect on backpressure, power, torque, heat, etc.

Apparently it doesn't have much of a positive effect on power either, but it DOES release the V4 sound!

The end caps come off with hex bolts, and when they bolted back in place you can't see that the exhaust is any different!

Nice bike mate, being a newbie I will ask a newbie question. Is that a VTEC model? also how does the VTEC work on a bike....good or very good? Also does it have that amazing sound like they do in cars?

    Nice colour too
1990 GSXR 750 - want one, can be crap, can be awesome....pm me.

It is a VTEC, and I happen to think it sounds pretty good! You get that same change in induction noise when it kicks in, although I did love a previous flatmate's MIVEC (mitsi VTEC) sound more.

The Honda bike VTEC works in a simpler fashion than the car version but achieves more or less the same effect - the arse dyno says that it works "very good" :-)

So you get this major surge of power in the higher revs?

Are there any side effects of owning a Vtec VFR...ive heard some people say they prefer the non-Vtec but never known why.

Well... I guess that I might be tinkering with a hex spanner on the weekend then!

Since you are now the proud owner of a VFR, your membership of this society is assured...
