    Forget it.

VHT will not cure unless heated to 400 degrees

Dude have you looked at option er-D
Rip all the plastics off you want/ need painted then see whats left of the bike.
Use Zip ties to hold what you need to ride held on
The bike doesnt need to be pretty to be ridden
then send the plastics away and enjoy polishing the exposed metal

Yeah I could lose the tail section, side panels if not wet. Tail-light assembly no, think the headlight needs the nose cone/fairing. Do-able though.

Looks like I might have a car real soon so the quick drying factor may not be an issue. Still keen as to paint it though.

    So questions:

    • I've been reading some of the Aprilia Forums and a large number of them say that I should just buy some spray cans of black primer and matte clear. Sound about right? Doesn't have to be a real nice finish... its an 8 year old bike after all.
    • I'd love to paint a piece in a day and be able to ride the bike later... how quickly will the primer dry and can I get away with putting the parts back on the bike quickly-ish (in non-contact areas)?
    • Should I use a coat of Matte Black and then top coat of Satin Black instead of using a matte/satin clear?
    • I've read (on KB) that a matte coat will mark easily (of course) but pledge will get prevent this happening?
    • Sanding before the first primer coat... is it just to 'rough it up', or should I leave it if the initial surface is good?
    • Which black-primer?

Advice very welcome. I have had a good read of DMNTD's similar thread but it didn't address all my ...erm... issues.
Well we painted a whole car matt black in 1 hour and drove it it was allgood so a bike shouldnt take long to do with spray cans i guess

They do fine work on the water tanks over the road, a bike should be fairly easy for them.

Came home tonight with a can of grey primer (couldn't find black) and some satin black. Sprayed silver taillight bit and silver side bits with primer and it dried f**king quick. Ashamedly I rattled away at the satin-black can and started spraying about an hour later... I'm impatient. A hairdryer session (on the panels) and a few more coats later and I put the bits back on the bike and it looks friggin awesome. Few runs in paint but, meh, its in old bike anywayz.

I'll take some photos if anyone cares to look later on. Will most likely do the tail section this saturday, and maybe, look at painting the front fairing too. The satin DOES look good though.
