My 1st motorbike hero when I was a kid.
Bugger....Evel wasn't a hero when I was a kid,he was a hero when I was out riding bikes.Evel didn't jump some lightweight Japanese MX bike with long travel suspension - he mostly jumped XR750 Harleys, big bikes with short travel suspension. This guy was a kickarse hero in every sense of the word, and it's a great loss to the motorcycling world.Fly high Evel.....

I loved him when I was wee- even though girls weren't supposed to. Or girls under the age of 12, anyway.
Always wanted one of those tacky little dolls they did at the time... never got one, though. *still sulking*
Here's hoping he's doing the perfect endless jump through the sky now...

It's been coming for years, but you just don't expect it. Superman just doesn't die, right?" Rundel said.
Immortalized in the Washington's Smithsonian Institution as "America's Legendary Daredevil," Knievel was best known for a failed 1974 attempt to jump Snake River Canyon on a rocket-powered cycle and a spectacular crash at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas. He suffered nearly 40 broken bones before he retired in 1980.
"I think he lived 20 years longer than most people would have" after so many injuries, said his son Kelly Knievel, 47. "I think he willed himself into an extra five or six years."
ride for freedom, ride safe, ride for me, and all the other bikers no longer able to ride
It's on the news at 6.00pm.
Isn't his son Chris Knieval ? Or Captain Knieval ?
I remember Evil saying once that he is not the greatest stunt motorcyclist in the world, he is the father of....

Read his book as a 10-12 yr old liked the stars & stripes painted everywhere.
Was a modern day(at the time)superman to most of my mates, even the neighbour who had a honda xl70 then after jumping most things on it,his folks realised he was good, they bought him an old tm125? then went to an rm125,wicked machines back in the 70's as kids.
