Sponsors aren't like talent scouts for Playboy. You will have to seek them out, rather than waiting for them to seduce you with riches, even if you're the next Valentino Rossi.

Yeah, sponsors don't find you. You find them.
"Getting picked up" is probably best undertaken in K' road. You'd wanna be pretty good to earn enough to race though.

First off , can you race ? , are you a good rider??.
Have you got any kind of record to put to a sponsor ?
A sponsor will want to be able to see a return of some sort and differant companies in specific catagories will want to see differant types of returns.
You need to be able to show yourself as , Keen , Able to communicate with knowledge of the sponsors company/ product, Be seen to have a can do attitude, And the list goes on. Basically you need to be passionate about your racing and have a certain amount of credential or at least a level of achievment already and to have respect from your competition will be a good base for any research on you by a sponsor.
I know there are a myriad of reasons a sponsor will or wont give you support but basically you have to be likable and able to walk the walk to match the talk if you want a deal to allow you to give it a good go.
I get very good value from my sponsor and i make sure i give good value back to the sponsor which will not always mean that you win, thats a bonus for you as you can come almost last in a race series and give a sponsor the best possible exposure, the media is a funny thing .
Stay squeeky clean and put in the effort and make yourself a name and you have then got something to offer a sponsor, its harder than you think but i fell onto a silver spoon and that makes sure the bowl is always full of food in the pantry.

There you go...I'm a Honda rider, but I'll take pity on your heathen ways!
SinstaNSR...I have no experience in racing, but a friend of mine has been racing for a few years now, and one of the things I took part in to help was the compilation of a portfolio for him.
It basically highlighted a personal profile of him as a person, then had various race reports with photos, talked about his goals for the racing future of his team, etc. Not to forget a history of his wins thoughout his career.
He made a few copies (read a lot of copies) and hand delivered them to a lot of different companies, with a list of price packages for exposure on his bike and/ or riding gear, with a projection for potential media coverage...
Hope this helps, good luck...

May I suggest also that it will be as much about the person as thier ability to ride.
I sure as hell wouldn't put time, money or effort into someone who isn't focused, committed or that I didn't have faith in as a person, no matter how good a rider he/she was.
