I have a couple of friends who dont have family... so she is coming to my familys xmas feed n stuff on xmas day... my mum has even got gifts from 'santa' for her! lol (shes 27)... xmas is a time for sharing & goodwill. Even pressies with Fireballs name on them from 'santa'

Last year I had two mates come spend the day with us... It is what its about... Mum asked me the other day 'is there anymore of your friends who dont have family or someone special to spend the day with?'...

Thats what I like about xmas... sharing what I am fortunate to have with those that are less fortunate, whether it be money, gifts, food, company or family... it makes me smile thats for sure

If I found a wallet I'd hand it in or try to contact person if details are in the wallet, after all what would you want if it happened to you.
dad did the same thing... found a purse on the road. i went through it for id... recognised the surname, as the girl who organised mum and dads aussie trip has the same. took it to cop shop, turns out the girls are cousins, with another relative being a cop! LOL. they were ringing her as we left. there was also a farmers card, which could have easily been maxed out. if thered be no id, the actions would have been the same, but it made it more personal given we know the family somewhat.

Boo! You moaning feckers, a few days off work for most of the adults to get pissed and over eat, a great day for kids to tear into presents, its a lot less hassle if you can get a mutual agreement to not buy presents for anyone other than your partner. Tough titties to anyone who buys for you. Whats to hate?

"few days off work" im working xmas day. would be at boxing day as well if i hadnt booked the day off some 2 months ago. workin all across new years too.

had two old bitches in this morning. no manners from either "do this, do this, do this" and then try and take off without paying for the oil. old bats. still had the money in her hand, the driver did, so she didnt "forget". both well old enough to know bloody better to.

I'm sorry, but I've always noticed that as much as it would be nice if everything could be fluffy and nice at this time of the year, the reality of it is that generally Xmas breeds a lot of contempt, ill feelings, fights and domestic violence and abuse. Meh.... I'm starting to sound like Jim2!! I'm just getting a bit sick of always being the 'giver' and often don't even get a thank you in return (from certain so called 'family members', probably because I am the 'root of all evil', ah f**k the lot of them.... sorry, just having a little vent, might go get pissed now, as you were). Yep, I hate Xmas too.

The stress of a long year seems to weigh heavily on most at this time.

The pressure to buy expensive presents comes from within, not advertisers.

Even though again this year we will have spent too much, I know our 10 year old will get the most joy from the $ 10.00 pair of second hand roller blades.

Perhaps I should feel sorry for those working the stats but as I've had only one day off this year, this is our time to kick back.

Every year we leave our son with family for a couple of days and head to cemetary circuit, were great racing ( and the odd beer ) makes you forget all your troubles.

Bollocks! Advertisers are cunning manipulative bastards who prey on small children. The whole "Christmas" thing is marketing and advertising gone stark raving mad! Same with Easter, Halloween and Valentines day. It's all bullshit to keep retailers pockets lined.

Your 10 year old may appear to be happy with a second hand pair of roller blades but deep down inside he/she will be wishing it was more like a $2000 laptop. It's not about the giving...it's ALL about how much you spend. The more you spend...the more you love them.
Do not handicap your children by making their lives easy.

i do have another point to add.....

why do you need a date to show someone you love them give them gifts or do charity work?
i also have a hate for easter, birthdays and more.
even if LilSel is trying to change my view on things..... she is almost convincing on the birthday thing but time will tell

i just think you should show your love for a person at any given time not just on the 25th of december.

    if that makes sense?!
I've learnt to hide the pain inside, open the throttle and ride away.

I agree (would bling ya, but I ran out of bling for today, I'm blaming Xmas for that too! lol), "good will to man" (and woman), should be every bloody day.

You don't have to buy into that.

You can decide to take another path and try to presenve the true spirit of both community, family and compassion that can be Christmas.

There are many places you can volunteer your time to help those whom life has dealt a rough hand, little acts of kindness that cost little but mean everything. You have no fiscal responsibility to climb onto the present bandwagon, set yourself free from it - Santa didn't invent expensive presents - the Grinch did, as well as those glossy catalogues.

I love Christmas - I love the old songs (I don't like rappers doing new christmas songs, it aint right), jigsaws, board games, crappy bon bons with the same old dumb jokes and a bottle of fizzy wine. If you can't find christmas this year - its at our place and you are welcome to come and join us - no presents required, just some simple food, drink and a bit of a laugh.

    pm me if you want....
right on, and good for you.

I only like it for the little-ies , and agree entirely about presents.... all it does is fuel the consumergasm, which isnt a good thing

(unless someone wants to give me a Triumph 675 or scrambler, in which case presents rule!)

not to mention people running red lights and just being cocks on the road.... any one else having this problem or is it just fucking bad tempered westies?

bring on febuary fuck xmas... stupid waste of time.....

ride safe all watch out for cagers with no brains.

i don't get why people complain about cars pulling out 3 times? in a week?

i get at least 30 -50 cars per day pull out....thats with lights on...i just ride defensively.

2 fingers always covering the front brake lever....

and in a low enough gear to accelarate out of the way if there isnt enough room/ time to brake.

so 3rd gear usually is sufficient.

i love christmas and couldn't give a toss whether people like it or not it's your choice.
its when im allowed to buy the beer i like,
kids get alot of time off school to do jobs on farm for me .
i do get a bit sick of the tunes all the time and if i look at it from some one that works in a shop dealing with heaps of people sure it would be a pain.
all my sisters come down to the naki and it prob the only time of year we are all together with my olds.
we have a hangi most years and get all the hangers on which is bloody great.
we have 2 people come every year because they have no family and it is bloody great to have them here with us.
most of the others that come are our friends and some of my parents friends.
maybe because i live out of town a bit i am sheltered from all the hustle of town.
but we are hectic too as we have either been out or had people for the for the last 9 nights and mate i wouldn't change it for the world.
every year i make the kids take one unopened present from under the tree and we take it to the womens refuge for the kids there and it's great that this year they were the first to bring it up to us that when are we taking the presents in.
yep i sure do love this time of year.

    I work in riccarton mall.

almost 3 times today I very nearly had my head ripped off because someone couldnt print their photos right now this second.

we have 6 machines, and some fuckwit goes "you people need to get more machines!"

then there's the general bad tempers

but then isn't xmas supose to be about having fun? loving your friends and family, and being generally nicer than usual? but people go to such unhappy lengths (aparently at my fault) to make themselves and familys happy.

then you have to define happy, the comercial and mega social image of husband, wife, 3 kids and the dog early in the morning on the 25th smiling and recieving the exact gifts they each wanted in the perfect colour and working exactly how they want them to? what about the perfect tree, and the snow? WHATS THAT? YOU LIVE IN A SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE SUB TROPICAL COASAL CITY?!?! better buy some fake snow to look like shit in the 25 degree weather, and every year they fail utterly to meet this unreal expectation.

then you have to ask if you can be "nice" for the week leading up to xmas why the fuck is it so hard to be nice for the other 51 weeks of the year? if it's such a fucking effort for you to fail to be "nice" then don't bother.

Make a simple gift. Wrap it. Leave it at the base of a Pohutakawa, (in bloom). Walk away.
Have a nice festive season people.
