    Just lost my licence

Can believe it. Was returning home from a friends place in the early hours of the morning. I thought the Tauranga expressway was open road but its an 80 zone. Got pinged at 132 I knew I was speeding a bit but thought I was well under the licence losing speed. Got my 28 day suspension and can expect a summons.

What can I expect in court given that it was 52kmh over on an expressway, no other traffic at all on the road (the police car was hiding under a bridge), dry road, no current demerits and only had a couple of small speeding fines in the past.

The policeman was not unreasonable about things but wouldn't consider taking a couple of km off to save a lot of hassle later on. I did my absolute best to be well behaved and not vent. Anyone know how accurate those stalkers are because if I can get a couple of km off then it will just be a whopping big fine and 50 demerits (and still a 28 day walk).

Bummer! Did the cop do you for anything like dangerous speed, or careless use? If not - i.e. he only did you for exceeding 100 kph, then you will probably get a $500 - $600 fine, and 50 demerits.

    Speaking from experience (160 in a 100).

    ouch..!!!! very unpleasant experience...
I read about some cases having been successfully challenged in court, and from memory they hinged on factors like proximity to other moving vehicles, electronics and or metal structures....Not sure if the bridge the copper was hiding under could be blamed for affecting accurate reading...Hope you can find a little loophole somewhere, and if you do keep us informed..
    Good luck
Opinions are like arseholes: Everybody has got one, but that doesn't mean you got to air it in public all the time....

even if it was 32 over man you still wuldve been pretty buggered...

why the heck were you doing that speed anyways?

i don't speed at night for the ismple fact, there the same amount of cops on the road but less other vehicles.....so chances are the car coming down the road is a cop more than it will be in the daytime.

and they have less vehicles to pull over so are gunna go after whatever they can..quotas to fill blah blah....

    silly boy.

but hey shit happens.....ive been pulled up 38 times in 2 years.

yeah they would have taken his bike to impound too....he will be paying at least 350-400 to get it out.

ahhh dude by the sounds of it you still think you are allowed 50 kph over...

you are only allowed 40 over now....

even if it was a 100kph zone.... you would have only been 8 kph under...

    you were 52 kph over...

thats a fair bit my son....

    lube up....bend over....greet bubba.

There's huge 80k signs all along the expressway. Anything over 120k will see you walking. They have huge problems with boy ricers racing on the expressways over there, so it's not surprising that he didn't cut you any slack.

Pretty sucky time to be walking though.....

Sorry to hear your crap news.

I would say to you that the cop being nice about it is their new "Catch more bees with honey" tactic.

"Have a nice day" - By the way, you're screwed!

I have no experience of NZ speeding (I've never been caught) and would be very interested to hear how you get on.

    Good luck.

I would accept the consequences and concentrate on getting a limited licence if you need one.

    Oh dear

I can't offer to much advice on this one I'm afraid. Looks like you will be on the push bike for a year and a hefty fine of around $600 plus court costs whatever they are nowadays.

About the only out I can offer you is to get a lawyer to act on your behalf or at least sit down with one and have a chat.

The cops I understand have to tune the Lazar every day and it also has to be logged.

This question could be asked in court, and the log book presented. If it wasn't tuned and logged. Then you may get the case thrown out.

Or maybe a lesser fine/suspension or whatever.

But like I say check it out with your lawyer first. If all fails then I'm afraid it's the old pun of "do the crime, and do the time.

Good luck. And It could happen to any one of us. So you have my sympathy!!

For your info skidmark the speed for having to go to court is 50kmh. If your caught at 49kmh you don't have to go to court but you still walk for 28 days. And if your nice to the cop he will let you ride home and not pay to get your bike out of the impound.

Damn I would hate to ride with you! You must attract heaps of attention! In 20 years of riding I have only been pulled up a couple of times and I have NEVER had a ticket.

Guess I am either a bloody nana or bloody lucky!
