Satnav recommendations?

Anyone had much experience with the various brands, Navman and Tomtom seem to be the most common.
Was planning on buying a Bluetooth handsfree phone kit but I see that some satnav units now include it as well as the gps function.
Anyway, comments about accuracy, updates, ease of use etc would be appreciated.

Have a look at the latest PC world mag. I was scanning through it in the book shop the other day and I think they have done an article on a few different units.

I use the Garmin Quest. but is just a gps with no extras. But is waterproof. Maps and auto routing, waypoints and POI's etc...

But the Garmin Zumo550 is probably the best GPS out there for the motorcyclist, is BlueTooth, Mp3 player, jpg, oh and a gps as an after thought

Grub bought a tomtom three days ago and returned it yesterday as it would not work properly including not being able to find the street we live in. A good return policy meant full refund!

I found mine brilliant through out Europe, but when I got mine there was no NZ maps...... maybe they are a bit rough at the moment!

What's a Tomtom worth does anyone know off hand?

As Nasty said, the one I returned was busted, no sound. When I tried to set "Home", even though the house has been here 20 yrs, it couldn't be found in the database. Listed price at Noel Leeming $499. I got it 20% off and it still wasn't worth it in that condition.

The salesperson tried to say that it must have the wrong settings from the factory. Yeah, whatever. It didn't work as expected, I was pissed off with it and it didn't deliver as advertised. I'd like to hear that I just got a crap one and that none of the above is true ... I might reconsider

My work phone is an HTC Titan. It is an excellent PDA / Phone https://www.telecom.co.nz/mobile/sho...tCode=HTCTITAN.

So I bought a bluetooth GPS from eFrontier http://www.efrontier.co.nz/estore/pr...roducts_id=122

There is a whole bunch of free GPS software to download, and I'm about to buy memory map http://www.memory-map.co.nz/ for about $65. A buddy at work has the full marine charts and others on CD from them already which I'll also use.

So far it has only cost me $130.

They offered to show the Garmin, it was 15mins before closing and I didn't want to be pushed into something else, so I said no, money back please.

Re old map, I agree but first thing I did when I plugged into the PC was run all the updates on the Tomtom site. If that isn't how you get the latest version of the installed map then I don't think I want whatever it is they're selling.
