Very true, the footage from some of the middle eastern countries showing the crowds parting for the cars makes you wonder how the drivers even know where they are going. Same thing with the start to the Baha 1000 for that matter.

I was just somewhat surprised to see no barrier between spectators and vehicles at a motorsport event here in cotton wool wrapped, save ourselves from ourselves, OSH-mad NZ. Personally, I'd have thought even sitting behind Jim2's fenceposts and number 8 wire would be better than nothing, just on the off chance something did go wrong. Note that I wasn't having a dig or a wind up or anything, I was just a bit curious.

I have to say that when I was guarding a driveway out there, I felt a little nervous standing on the road side with bikes hurtling past at frightening speeds, so got back on the kind folks' driveway and behind their large wooden fence, just in-case like. But then again, I am a pussy!

I grew up on Great Barrier Island, not much OSH over there either. You learn things the old fashioned way - if you do something once and it hurts, you tend not to do it again.

Although getting hurt hasn't stopped me from getting on bikes, so maybe the theory is flawed . . .

You seem to have changed your tune a bit over the last year and a half or so, Jim?

I stand by my comments. I think compared to the original location the new one is crap, and the volume of residential properties is a PITA. But if you want to participate you don't have a choice.

Would you say that theres a much bigger crowd at the new location than the old one? ...also as I understand it there was a certain amount of courage required when going around the corner at the old site. Is that a fair comment?

Facilities are much better at Dalefield Road and it does tend to attract more spectators.

The road itself is not as friendly in terms of width, however that bend at the start of the East West Access Road was pretty hairy topping out in third gear.

Having said all that - I've never done a run at Dalefield Road - too busy organising it.
