    Happy riding chick!!

    You're confusing yourself a bit...

SH54 is the road from Palmy north through Feilding back onto SH1 south of Taihape.

    The Napier-Taupo road is SH5.

And the Desert Road is still a quicker way north than the National Park route, which adds more than 50km, unless you're prepared to ride through National Park doing over the ton but would have stayed legal-ish on SH1. I've seen plenty of cops through National Park, though, so that doesn't make much sense to me.

    Right.

    You and me.

Flag falls at the Waiouru Subway sometime after dark. You go left, I go straight ahead.

Self-imposed gentleman's speed limit of a nice safe imperial ton.

Last one to Taupo has to wash kiwifruit's sheets.

if the tour involves a compulsery stop in taupo...u will own me..if going straight to aucks I'ld kick your arse... my fastest route to aucks via taupo would be...haywoods..piekock hill...hw1...taupo...tirau turn to hw 27

Yeah, I know, but I always stop in Taupo.

OK, fair enough, National Park is faster if you head north via the east route to Te Awa Moo Two etc.

    Really, you reckon?

It's just another fast open highway as far as I'm concerned. Scenery's OK, but not worth all the additional miles of "I hope there's not a cop car over the next crest" riding.

yep, I reckon...and the reason is that everytime I ride on that road, I'm on the way to something exciting like the Cold Kiwi...and my brother in law's got a place in Ohakune, so I can always get a really hot shower on arrival, and it feels sooooooo good after the long ride.

I don't know, but it kind of represents freedom to me.

And re: cops. I never actually saw that many at all last year.

    Ah, right.

Like the way I start wiggling excitedly in my seat every time I turn left from SH1 onto Spa Rd.

I haven't as yet witnessed the mentioned wiggle, but yes, you got the idea
