Crash on Piecock hill (1 February)

Apparently there was a fatal crash on Piecock hill today.

Not necessarily "one of ours", but as a chunk of road it certainly enjoys extracting it's toll. Also, I bet it'll be crawling with Rozzers for a few weeks. Anyway, watch it up there mmmkay?

Hmm, I just went over the Piecock hill early tonight, must have been around 8ish. Didn't see anything so I imagine all was cleared

Damn. And it was such beautiful weather for riding today too.

She's a bad mistress that road.

    RIP fellow rider.
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

So so true mate. It carries too much traffic driving like they have the whole road to play with, for my liking.

{hairs on neck standing up} I hate hearing that. I did the road out and back today at 11am because we hadn't cuddled for a couple of weeks. All was good then thank god.

It has it's traps, you have to know them.
    - There's a couple of corners that always have gravel between the wheel tracks
    - There's one right hand corner down in the gully coming south just after it turns to rough chip seal that has a drain excavation through it.
    - Going north after summit there's an off-camber left with lots of bumps in it - just right for unsettling you
    - Also in the gully going south where it is narrow and twisty, just before the 25kmh right hander there's a couple of lefts that have subsidence and rough endges mid-lane that could throw you.

That road in particular is one lovely bike track but you do need to know it and respect it. I still believe though that the greatest hazard is opposing traffic. Why? Because it doesn't matter how well you know the raod or how careful you are, on one trip in two you will see a car across the centreline.

    A pie with rooster meat.

short version for Paekakariki Hill Road, Paekakariki, Kapiti Coast. A twisty, narrow road with a great view (at the top) over looking Kapiti Island.

Its actually a real bastard of a road to ride (quite dangerous due to its hazards), but some enjoy it - each to their own

Paekakariki - translated from the Maori means roughly "hill where the parrots hang out"

Yes, its a technically challenging hill, and a few of us have fallen off on it. It has everything you could want for in a riding road, and more. And the views from the lookout are magnificent.
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

Its a goat track as evidenced by the amount of goats you see on the road and if your on a bike and a cars is sharing it with you then be prepared to become a bonnet emblem.

I heard it was closed but i dont know details , if a life has been lost or an injury suffered its not at all good, sad news.

    ummm no.

No gorgeous scantily clad sheila's wandering around
    No pie cart
    No halfway coffee house
    No speed humps

Just potholes, a dash of pea-metal (gravel) and fukwits crossing centre lines.

Can think of much better roads than that goat track.
