Just potholes, a dash of pea-metal (gravel) and fukwits crossing centre lines.

Can think of much better roads than that goat track.
    distractions, distractions, distractions all.

I prefer to ride on roads, not stop.

With the notable exception of the fukwits (sic) I will have to agree to disagree with you there Patch.

But yes, the road is challenging, and its sad yet another biker's met his end there. I won't speculate but I see no mention in news reports about any other vehicle. Draw from that what you will.
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

ah, 'tis the joy of the journey my dear watson, a refreshing break at the end, and the fuel to start another

Still sad, another son/daughter being mourned.

Huh? Where did the report state that there was a bike involved? Was there another report that I missed?

Have to agree with Her_B4, I have done some searching and can not find much information.
I haven't found anywhere that says it was a bike, has anyone been able to find out any more information??

Yeah, umm, it didn't. Neither did I. I suppose it's a fair assumption to make, wot with this being a bikers site and all. Again, while the crash was not necessarily a bike, it is a fair reminder of what a nasty bit of tarmac it can be...

A friend with a police scanner called me when the accident occurred as it was apparently a black bike involved with 2-3 cars. Possibly a head-on collision. This is all speculation and must be treated as such.

The rider, a 42-year-old man from Levin, died at the scene. His name was not yet being released.

The road was closed for about two and a half hours while police investigated the crash.

Any witnesses who had not yet spoken to police were asked to contact Mr Walker at either the Porirua or Kapiti police station.
Not good. Neither Sparkybills nor I can figure out where this happened as we can't find any paint marks on the road. I've just come back from an end-to-end ride in my new Spyke leathers (thanks Motomart!) and couldn't see any evidence.

Last night's news clip said 5km from Grays Rd which makes it about the middle of the road (11.1km long), probably in the gully.

That road in particular is one lovely bike track but you do need to know it and respect it. I still believe though that the greatest hazard is opposing traffic. Why? Because it doesn't matter how well you know the raod or how careful you are, on one trip in two you will see a car across the centreline.
But of course there's never any motorcyclists that cross the centreline on that stretch.

Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

brother in law (who is in CVIU) said that it was a hyobusa rider from Levin. Over took a car and plowed straight into a bank.

I thought it was "green pie"?

And has this fatality been attributed as a motorcyclist, before we get waist-deep into another RIP thread?

Yes Hitcher. Was indeed a Motorcyclist.

Basically at this stage > Bike overtaking two vehicles on blind corners - collided with oncoming car and then into a bank.

Family still being contacted - Witness's still being called for.. Details still being gathered..
If your looking at Bike Comms, have a read of this review..

Rechecked my sources (primarily H.M. Ngata).

    Pae has many meanings, including:

horizontal, horizon, latitude, lie across, (meat) pie, ready for use, sit, sphere, (run) aground, (legal) bar and a few others.

Kakariki can be either green, parakeet or gecko.

So... its possible paekakariki could be pie green (remember adjective before noun in Maori) but my money is on it being a place the parekeets (not parrots sorry) hang out.

An old workplace (learning Media) has the Ngata Dictionary online (I have H.M. Ngata's English-Maori dictionary at home). You can read it here.
