Where to buy and how to change an HT lead on a RG150

Hey dudes

Was just wondering where in auckland I can buy an HT lead for my RG150 and how I go about changing it. The manual doesn't say much about it, and electrical problems scare me lol

Hi Drider,

Visit your local auto electrical agent ask ask to purchase a metre or so of 8mm copper High Tension lead.
Unscrew the spark plug end (simply by twisting it un done against the wire), splay the copper inside of the new HT wire somewhat and seat the spark plug cap onto the new wire and feel the pin seat into the copper conduite.

Then start on the coil end. Unsrew this, taking note on any collars or spacers that come off. Install them in reverse order the same way.

If you get stuck take the whole coil, lead and plug cap past the auto elcetrician and they should be able to give you some coaching.

+1 what he says, good advice. It is not a difficult task so give it a go. You might want to measure exacly how long an ht lead you need though.

Be aware some coils have the ht leads sealed into them. Also some ht leads fit onto a bayonet fitting which pushes into the copper wire inside the ht lead. I guess you will find out what you have when you take it apart. So long as you remember how to put it back together again you will be fine.

Anyway, why are you replacing the ht lead? What is wrong with it?

If you are replacing ht leads you might also want to consider repalcing the connecting piece that fits over the top of the sparkplug as this tends to detriorate over time. Coils also deteriorate over time. Before you go replacing these other bits and start spending large see how your bike runs and if it is fine, leave alone.
