    Selecting leathers?

    Hi all,

Need some advice and opinion on selecting leathers,

Firstly i went around a few different bike shops looking at one and two piece leather suits average price seems to be between $1200-$2400 lower end being Teknic/Ixion and higher end being Spyke/Sidi/Alpine stars it appears that most bike shops don't have a great selection of suits with the exception of cycltreads having the most (In auckland atleast).

I ride on road 100% of the time with regular day trips out of auckland, currently i wear full Codura Ixion jacket and Spool pants, but feel that as my riding ability advances so should my gear, I'm a firm believer that leather protects far better than codura (thats my own opinion anyhow) Now what i would like from y'all is your opinion on what type of leathers i should go for i.e: 1pce/2pce how much i should spend on it i.e Ixion or Sidi etc... I'm also looking at the option of Quasimoto gear price wise it seems to be in between the higher and lower ends.

Also is there any difference with a 2pce suit and buying seperate zip together leather pants and jackets?? visually the only thing i could tell was the hump on the back of the 2pce race suit.

any info would be greatly appreciated

The other thing you might consider is custom made. I kind of had to because of my dwarvish legs, but pricewise I thought what i got was very reasonable, and you can't beat the fit. Kerrie at MSW is in K Rd and truly excellent to deal with.

I think a two piece suit from her was $1800 or so. and she uses good quality Knox armour also.

I would like to meet whoever it is that has the rack that fits the jacket on the front page. It might be an optical illusion is all.

DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU WANT PROTECTION FROM...THE ROAD OR THE WEATHER !!! LEATHER JUST SLOWS THE "GETTING WET" PROCESS DOWN A LITTLE BIT. If you only ride when the sun shines ( does it rain in jaffa land ??? ) LEATHER is fine.

I've just been down this same road...Try before you buy at all the Auckland bike & Leather shops...then visit Bret & Paula's place & try on some Quasimoto gear. Frosty wouldn't recomment crap.
I highly recommend their gear also. I bought my gear from them. Knox Armour, high grade cow hide etc...really good gear
