Help with VIN

Hello all, I live in Japan and a friend of mine has a 2004 GSXR1000 and it is supposed to be a New Zealand spec. We are trying to decode his VIN and have been having no luck. The VIN is JS1BZ121300101593, any help would be greatly appreciated...

The vin is only for registration on the roads, the numbers are random and have no relevence to the bike.

they are just put on here to go with the numberplates. they give no information about the vehicle.

the only numbers that will give info on the bike are those stamped from factory into the headstock.

so is it a new zealand model that has always been in japan or did you import it...it will only have a VIN plate if it has been registered in new zealand.

Thanks for the reply.. I am not sure how long it has been in Japan. He bought it from another military member here. The reason we are trying to decode the VIN is because he is considering trying to get it titled/shipped back to the US. But they are really anal about shipping anything back that is not US or Canadian spec. Some crap about the 10th digit in the VIN specifying where the bike can be operated and shipped only... For some reason, the US really hates EURO and Jap spec bikes of any kind... I will call him tomorrow and ask if it has a plate on it. Thanks again...

In fact most street bikes sold anywhere in the world these days have either a factory-issued VIN or a VDS, either of which can be stamped into the frame somewhere or on a plate, not necessarily on or near the headstock. These numbers are model specific and actually tell you a lot about the machine. Try this link for more info.
