R1 arrives next monday!!

It's a 99 r1, but I can't wait! Last bike I was riding was a cbr600f, so it's a big step up for me....

What things can I expect from the R1 in terms of:

tyre wear - I hear they eat rear tyres?
Fuel - 98 ron only?
Other oddities??

Any advice or friendly feedback always welcome!

i can agree with that, watch out after 7,000, front wheel comes up real fast.

Rode one a few months ago, so I've got an idea of what i'm in for. Mine's been re-jeted, dyno'd, etc as if I need more power!?

Tyre wear isn't too bad. A Pirelli Diablo on the rear will usually last 4000-5000km of street use. Chains and sprockets can wear quickly if you don't buy good ones or you don't look after them.

It is quite easy to set them up badly so take some time to work the suspension out best for you. It will always be a little flighty though.

Another thing I've noticed is intermittent oil consumption. Also remember that the oil light is a level indicator not a pressure switch.

A great bike if you find a nice one. I still miss my red/white 98.

Ohhh, you'll be in for an interesting time, that's for sure!

Glad you're excited about the wheelies, sounds like you'll be able to get it up on one wheel with ease... Just try not to drop it when you do so!

Still a great looking bike.

I reckon we've got a lot to thank Yamaha and Honda for. Without the Fireblade, and then the R1, we wouldn't have GSXR1000's. The point is, we're living in an age of really great bikes - we're spoiled for choice. Lots of horsepower - check. Good handling - check. Great looks - check.

Have fun with it, watch out for the yokes - they tend to leap up at you occasionally...
