Battery replacement suggestions?

I am in the market for a replacement battery for the CBR 929.

At the moment I've got a YUASA YTZ10S Maintenance Free Battery which to my shock retails around $300-$340

It measures about 5.5 L by 3.7 H by 3.2 W, so it isn't big.

I don't know what they put inside or how they make them but they are one of the best that's available.

I've browsed the net and there are alot of YTZ10S replacement batteries around the $60-$100 US dollars mark.

Thinking it would be wise to stick to YUASA but $300 isn't something that I am willing to splash out on a battery and other branded replacements should be close or just as good?

Any recommendations?

EDIT: I would prefer somewhere local in NZ for a cheaper alternatives, although it is tempting to get one from overseas but unsure how stable batteries are in transit..

you can get ripped of for sure.
when we had a vfr800 they wanted $300 for one with a honda symbol on it.
found the same one without for $112.

Just had to replace the Triumphs one. Replacement Yuasa battery was $173, or random brand one for $68. Got the random brand one!
This was from Holeshot on the shore.

I've got a quote for AERO, chinese replacement for about $89.00 bucks.

Not really sure how it works out but the chinese one but if I keep it charged when I am not using the bike it should be O.K!

I've rang a couple of places today for the YUASA and the price is between $350-$430. I nearly died from a heart attack for $430.

Now I forgot to mention that my battery took a bit of a knock and I am just hoping that nothing has happened to it.

Just recently I was replacing my spark plugs and checking for spark, so I had to fire my bike repeatedly to do so and the battery died after a few go's.

Not so sure if this means anything, or if I shattered a plate inside from the fall but from most of the places that I've took it to, it says is O.K (that's after I've charged it).

Is there a way I can diagnose my battery so that I am sure it's dead?

There are Japanese Yuasa batteries which cost the earth and there's Yuasa batteries made under license in Taiwan for a fraction of the price. Any bike shop should be able to get you the cheaper option.

Thanks, I managed to score a Taiwanese YUASA for my Katana a few months back about $90 bucks but that battery wasn't sealed and nowhere near the calibre of the Fireblade's one.

I'll keep that in mind next time I ring up but so far, I haven't had any luck with a Taiwanese replacement for YTZ10S as the dealers kept telling me about how they have this Chinese AERO as an replacement . I have a feeling they didn't make on purpose so they can get you buy the expensive one.

The last battery change I had, the service rep talked me into spending a bit more on a Bosch branded battery. He gave me a big discount to make it less painful and said I wouldn't regret it.

Well in this instance, he was right. It was far more robust and survived several 'Dead' situations that I know the previous Suzuki cheapie wouldn't have.

There is a place in Otahuhu that might be able to revive your old battery for $40 bucks plus comes with 6 months warranty. Wonder how the heck did you toast your battery I still got my original 929 battery. You need a battery charger bro? I got one suitable for the blade

Hi,

The geniune Japanese made - or US ones are great though , when I worked at what Many people call a "Rip off M/cycle shop"
we sold cheapie Taiwanese under a $100 or big dollar high quality type $150-300.
That way whatever you budget allows you should be able to get at least something ay.
I brought the Bimota with a cheap unsealed no name type. It was always hard to start - I didnt know at the time that type of EFI is sensitive to cranking speed.
Factory it would have had a Jap made YTX14L-BS like Suzuki, Yamaha etc.
I went for a US made (Jetski etc) Yuasa YTX14AHL-BS, same dims but with 210CCA and a resultant high cranking speed and HQ plate separaters etc.
They shop made an error quoting it and I got it for $150
when they retail for $210 (only 20% profit for them)

Not all "Genuine" batteries are super duper dear, we sold US made original batteries for Harley and Buell at $170-200
odd and I think they were AGM type.
