I haven't had one done by them, I enquired but was too much of a tight arse to spend the $500.
Others here always speak very highly of them and from the discussion I had about the improvements needed, they certainly sounded like they knew their work.
Get it done and tell us all about it!

I think Nordie would be proud of that statement

I have got one of their seats on my CB1300S. I can tell you they are bloody brilliant! $500 well spent in my opinion. My Honda seat wasn't too bad as it was, but my wife wasn't that comfortable as pillion, so I splashed out "just for her of course" !! and yes ... can highly recommend them.
I just wondered what others (apart from Nordie) have done, and what the shape ends up like, thickness, width, etc.
If I get a DR, I will get a Rider seat done for sure, and would let you know, with pics.

I have a "Rider" seat on my Sprint. It does the job well.
When I got the DR, I enquired about a "Rider" seat for it as well and was told it would be around the $500 mark. Now my mate has a Corbin seat on his DR and it works well and it was about $500.
So now, I too have a Corbin on the DR because, while the price was the same as the Rider, I knew exactly what I was getting. I had no reason to believe that the Rider would be inferior, but I simply was not able to "try before you buy" like I could with the Corbin.
I may not be as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I always was.

There is mention on the interweb somewhere that the 08 DR650 has a softer seat or different foam ?

The DR was designed in about 1840 and no changes have ever been made since.

I understand the problem is the foam is actually too soft so you end up sitting on the seat base & frame rails, to remedy this you need a seat rebuild or to stand up a lot.
Personally, despite all the moaning about the seat, it's not until you've done 300-400 Kms that it becomes painful, as thats about a days riding anyway it really isn't the end of the world. You just have to stand at the bar for an hour or so to ease the pain....

It's alright for you, who is built like a rake handle, has to run round in the shower to get wet and is broader in the kneecaps than the butt - but when you are like me and have an arse like an expedition bag that hangs down about a foot on either side of the seat....... Well that sucker nails you right on the end of the spine.
As you say, day 1 is tolerable but uncomfortable. Day 2 starts out bad and just gets worse.
All hail Messrs Rider and Corbin!!!

Fair enough ... so where did you get the Corbin for the DR from ?

And .... is it a quantum leap forward in comfort from the stock seat ?

I will occassionally carry a pillion too, but not any great distance at a time, so comfort is important to "her in doors", for the times she comes with me for a wee ride.

my father in law does rider seats.

best opinion is if you & your seat come to us, and we get the best fit, sometimes this can't happen, so get sent seats and we modify them and return them to owners, and sometimes just not right. We happy to get them back and modify them to suit more what you are after.

Being a custom seat designed for you sometimes take a bit to get just right.

We have had many people come in and replace there corbin seats with one of ours. since corbins did not suit there arse.

    PM sent.
I should emphasize that I have no problem with Rider seats at all, quite the reverse in fact. I am certain that even if it is a "one off" that they have never done before, if you can spend the time with them, they will achieve very good results - perhaps even better results than a "one size fits all" product like the Corbin. The time thing was a problem for me however and I am happy with what I have.

As a footnote, I have never had my good lady on the back of the DR. However, just looking at the pillion peg height leads me to think that, no matter whose seat it is fitted with, comfort wise, it will not be anywhere near your CB.
I may not be as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I always was.
