My new bike, trUde the 07 R1

Heres my new toy, trUde the 07 R1

    (the blue one)

marvin, the MV F4 1000s was just too beautiful, too fussy, too.... too much for this small hairy piece of fruit. I covered very few km on it and beaded many droplets of sweat over stone chips, leaking vital fluids, fried electrics ETC ETC ETC

    Enter trUde, the 2007 YZF1000R1.

Picked her up a few days before christmas, did many kms right away.... over 10,000 in three weeks travelling no-where in particular. What a bike!

Power is fairly soft in the lower half of the rev range, plenty of poke from the new 16 valve head after that. Its not unlike a cbr in that it doesn't feel fast.... Unlike a cbr however, it IS fast

Chassis is amazing! Very stable, refined and confidence inspiring.... best i've sampled. Brakes are equally impressive with bugger all fade, even on the track.
Stock 190/50 was quickly exploded to make way for the 190/55. 190/50 is not a good profile for a bike like this if you intend on leaning it over some, 190/55 made a world of difference, loads more grip.

15,000 odd km i decided to fit a Penske 8987.

The stock suspension wasn't "bad", just a bit cheap feeling, a bit blah..... A quick txt to Shaun had the said Penske on its way (too easy ). **i've made the mistake of doing power adding mods first before, i'm sooo glad i didn't make the same mistake.... what these modern bikes REALLY need is decent suspension, bugger the power adders**

Had it fitted last week, the difference was amazing! Now i have previously unfathomed amounts of grip available. On my initial test ride, on roads i ride alot, i felt as if i was going much slower when i was infact going much faster. The bike feels safer, (and strangely faster?) i'm on the gas earlier and have ALOT more grip... everywhere. I'm most impressed. it is a bit harsh at "lower" speeds but really works well once things get a bit more urgent, if you will. I'm going to have a play with a few settings to dail out some of the stiffness on the road. On the track it was f@^k1n awesome!!! Could not fault it at all. Just what i wanted, thanks Shaun

Will need to get some decent track tyres next time, the powers are a good road tyre but not upto the bike suspension combo now... they are the weakest link (excluding the rider).

So yes, i will be keeping this one

I'm looking at your on-board cam footage now and your R1 is looking pretty sharp indeed! even tho you were in that formation you somehow belted thru the pack to make some space ... maha... congrats on your nu ride -interested that you passed on the MV too... the R1 looked pretty tasty parked up too

Interesting to hear you're going to Contirace attacks, have you ever tryed the Pilot race?
I have Contisport attacks on at the moment and at this point I think i'll go back to Pilot power 2ct's to see if I can regain that sense of grip the 2ct's gave me on my last bike.

Yes, i liked the power race, i'd go there again
Really want some super corsas (or some Avon Viper extremes!)... cant beat them in the dry, but $$$$$$
The powers are a great road tyre, awesome in the wet. They lack grip at the higher end of the scale, ie on the track
Hopefully the race attacks will hang on a bit more, we'll see

    Awesome looking machine.

How does it feel after an MV?

And what level of quality are Penske at? Above/below/on par with Ohlins?

yep! was never a fan of the 5 valve R1, gutless and boring IMHO, the new engine and chassis are vast improvements

    Smooth, refined..... sorted.
Its not the same as riding a piece of art of course... which turns out is a good thing for me
