The tatt on my arm is like that, except I actually got it started while she was still finishing it. Unfortunately she finished herself off before my tatt design so i've left it as it was/is as a memory of her for me.

You'll note my stretch marks have added a touch of texture to it too - looks like it really is rising from the fire

It was funny cos I almost posted a pic of it but then found yours and thought prrrfffft mine looks too sad to put up...

Like that moment on Crocodile dundee ..."that's not a knife THIS is a knife" OR in this case "that's not a phoenix tattoo - THIS is a phoenix tattoo!".

I love the story of the phoenix too and for me it was an intensely personal choice of image...may have some very similar themes to why you identified with it actually (after reading some of your other posts...pS: I am NOT a stalker!)

    Awesome!!! BTW
faaarrrrkkkk I would nee had the balls for that amount of work - that's some serious stuff. Will check for the updated pics as you get it finished off.

Yeah, at about hour 3 I was starting to think that it was a little too big for a first tattoo, but once it was finished, I was glad I stuck with it. And was utterly stoked at the result.

Started thinking that the pain is also a kind of rite of passage, particularly with the meaning behind mine.

A little how I feel about mine then I guess, but I can't remember the pain now, it being two years on. Planned my next though, just money being why I haven't got it done yet.

What's the meaning behind your tattoo? Hubba and Number One. Sorry if it's been previously posted!
Who, me? I just wander from thread to thread.

I agree with that! If you can't bear that pain you shouldn't be getting it I reckon....being afraid of needles (and well any kinda pain really) getting this done was something I thought long and hard over. After 7 years I still wanted the same thing in the same place so really 40mins of pain was little price to pay and actually I'm kinda proud of that pain. AND yes given my reasons for getting a phoenix I too feel the pain added to it's meaning for me.

I'd really rather not post the 'meanings' on here actually. But if we ever meet I will tell you the stories over a beer if you pay (well I'll have a Margerita actually )

    From the original thread:

I was diagnosed as clinically depressed 6 years ago. Since then i've battled with it every day of my life. Suicide attempts, weeks where I can't even get out of bed, you name it, i've been through it. Lost 2 great mates to suicide as well.

Anywho. To me, the Phoenix represents my struggle. Rising from the ashes, means that tomorrow can always be a better day, and no matter how deep and dark I feel, I will get better soon. Today is not the end of the world. The bird aspect of it also represents freedom of the soul. It is also looking forward, towards the future.

The star that it is carrying up with it represents 5 things that have got me through some tough times.

    Friends.
    Family.
    Love.
    Honour.
    Integrity.

The star is supposed to look deformed, as though it has been dragged through hell and back (just as I have been), and that effect will come with the shading.

Sappy, I know, but it means a lot to me, and I am utterly stoked with how it turned out.

Might be persuaded to post pix of them, but at the moment it's too cold here to strip off to display them!

I'm too young to buy you alcohol (10 months to go), but if you're ever in the Taumarunui area and you need a place to stay I could probably get you a bed at my folk's!

What are you trying to say?

Nah, my folks have a few spare rooms and since I got into the bike scene have indicated to me that they don't mind helping out bikers I know should they be in the area. They're not into bikes themselves but they know how tiring it can be and how much it can suck in bad weather.
