My sincere condolances go to the families and friends of these riders. My thoughts too are with all those directly involved: my colleagues in the ambulance, the marshalls, the riders in the race and all the officials at the meeting. My heart was in my mouth when Jimmy was racing afterwards, as I'm sure it was for the families, friends and crew of all the other riders.

I think the account MNZ set up after Shaun's accident is a for all injured/fallen riders. You just need to put the riders name as a reference to ensure that it goes to the correct person/family. I'll do some checking.

Two people died and the general public at the track were not informed? racing not stopped for the day? IMO that shows an alarming lack of sensitivity and good taste.

My deepest heart felt condolences go out to the victims families and friends.

wow i agree with you SPB! I'm surprised they didn't cancel, the show must go on I guess?
I dont usualy post on these threads, but I guess this one really strikes close to home. After watching both Drew and Flame have offs at the Sound of thunder, I can understand, the tiniest bit, that dread feeling.
My deepest sympathy goes out to all involved, family, friends, other racers, helpers, the clubs... so sorry that you all have to go thru this.
Each time I take to the track I know something could happen, and yes, it is selfish but we do it anyway. Very sorry for your loss

I would have to disagree with you sorry.
It seems in the bike racing world that it is a mark of respect for fallen riders to continue the racing.
Both my husband and I race and feel the same way.

    RIP boys.

    riders die at puke

Summary | Newstalk ZB | NZPA
    NewstalkMonday March 10, 05:28 AM
    Biking deaths a terrible tragedy

Motorcycling New Zealand says the deaths of two motorcyclists at Pukekohe Park Raceway south of Auckland, was purely a racing accident and there was not much that could have been done to prevent the tragedies.

The men collided on the back straight during the final round of the Motorcycling New Zealand Road Race Championship.

President Sandra Perry says an investigation has been launched and Motorcycling NZ will take on board any recommendations arising from the coroner's inquest. She says those taking part in the sport are aware it can be dangerous, but officials will definitely look at anything which could improve the situation.

shocking news, my thoughts go out to their famillies.

I understand and respect your veiws SHELRACING, but ask yourself if this had happened at MotoGP or Superbikes would racing have continued? I think not!

    RIP.

Very sorry to hear of the two riders who lost their lives doing what they loved.
