Your opinion differs from a large number of the less sedentary Kiwis fleeing over the ditch. Some of that is lifestyle/income driven but a lot of it is escape from political interference.

Yes, this is true however I did not come to NZ to earn lots of money. I came here with money and was looking for a better quality of life, which I have found.

I did, as did 20% of our bothers and sisters here. 20% of the country did NOT vote last election as a big middle finger to the govt, yet it all falls on deaf ears as there is still a govt, and they still have the same numbers.
If this was South America the beehive would have been burnt to the ground and Guerrilla war would have broken out. But NZ not voting counts as much as pissing on the neighbors fence. What we need is the 'void' party where every seat they get will be left empty. Money can go to stuff the we need

I'm actually quite glad this isn't South America (although that Rio place looks interesting at Carnival Time). Guerilla warfare would be a bit of a hassle, and not too flash for our image as a tourist destination.

We can't have a 'void' party, and if you really want to make any sort of contribution to who makes up the government you probably need to vote. It's sort of how democracy works.

To spend money on stuff we need we need to have someone collect taxes. This has proven quite difficult without a central government.

And you can't burn the Beehive to the ground, as it's a concrete structure.

My kids just finished primary school over the past 2 years and I have never had anything but praise from and for the school! Now both are a high school, and I still have nothing but praise from and for the school....

Well, that accomplishes nothing else than saying that you believe that all politicians are equally (in)competent and it doesn't matter what party is getting the votes. (You could argue that it is indeed the case - but it's not going to change anything)

On the other hand you can start your own little rebellion (oh no, they took that opportunity away with the terrorist label...) or go and start your own political party and try and change the system from the inside (good luck, I suspect it'll be an exercise in futility).

While it's nice to observe that there is still a glimmer of patriotism left in NZ, accepting mediocrity is why the little island is in the shit and getting much worse.

When you say NZ isn't so bad, you're thinking about riding through the twisties and eating pies with your mates. Saying NZ is better than a lot of other countries is true but irrelevant because we live here... for now. This country has significant problems and a very bleak future. We've missed the boat. Yes it isn't as overtly horrendous and repulsive as Southampton or Glasgow.

There's a fundamental rot caused by the laidback "quality". We need to be setting fire to politicians homes and making it unsafe for them to walk the streets. They've sold us up the river in a vast number of ways. We're a post-modern, post-socialist, post-feminist, free market nightmare. You have blinkers on. There are laws that directly contravene the Bill of Rights and NZ's Anti-Discrimination Bill in regard particularly to social programming and the rights of parents and children, and our lovely caring government is desperate to establish a free trade agreement with a country that butchers it's own citizens and absorbs other sovereign states and when people complain go, "What Country? That was always part of China. No, we've NEVER heard of Tibet. Some sort of Western fantasy."

They've never acknowledged that the only beneficiaries of that Free Trade agreement are China, thanks to a massive trade imbalance in China's favour. Which will never change because we don't produce anything China wants.

No, NZ is in a mess that isn't as immediately as apparent as say Liberia, but it is a mess all the same. Just because you don't get beaten up in the street because you forgot to put gang neutral colours doesn't mean it is paradise. By the time NZers notice it's bad, they will have lost the economic power to leave.

But the Govt is also keen to do trade with America...are they any better..."No"...

Okay agree China is not perfect, however, maybe by trading we can influence them to make better changes...put this another way, we got more chance of changing China than we have America...there is still hope with China and we have to realise that China has really just come out of the dark ages compared to many other Countries with many centuries old traditions that are being discovered and are only now being brought to our attention
