More on Ear Plugs..

Any one tried these from Shure...

THey apparently reduce noise by 10-20db.. just wondering if thats enough on a motorcycle.?

I suffer from the temp muffled deafness after a long ride, but not too happy with completely sealed ears, so these may be an alternative..?

Any one any thoughts?

At that price you cant really go wrong.

After that your probably looking at getting something like filtered plugs where you can hear someone speak to you, you can hear some traffic, but that white noise that the wind creates disappears.

Expensive though. I just went with custom ear defenders. Best money I ever spent.

Yes, maybe.

I bought a pair of Shure headphones for their supposed capability of noise cancelling/hifi sound so I did'nt have to wind the sound up too loud and in isolation they do a reasonable job of this.
Mine cost me $100 on sale normally $150 and yeah the sound quality is not too bad really and the sound isolation is reasonable too but the problem I have found is that you have to jam them so far into your ear they may as well be hard wired direct into your brain tissue! You have to fit them just "so" or they will sound shit, not work as a noise canceler and will be insanely uncomfortable and even when I manage to get the fit sorted by the time i've done 10 odd km's they've fallen out!
Some people obviously use Shure headphone with great success but for me I just threw away a $100! I will make one last attempt to to get sounds on my bike (for the boring bits) by buying some wired Plugz for Lugz, they had better sound bloody good for what they are gonna cost but at least I know they will stay in and work as a sound isolator and be comfortable.

Yes they all have an assortment of different attachments for better fitting but none of the made to much difference for me but as I said, you may have better success than I, people do use them on motorbike with success....

Went into Canterbury Hearing (Now Triton Hearing) said "I think I'm slowly going deaf, sort me out it ear plugs and an hearing test"

Basically they are what plugs for lugs will sort you out with I think, only the mold gets sent to Aus to get made into the actual plugs.

Works really well.

The ones I got were 140. The filtered ones were about 250 IIRC.

What model were they? Depending on what model -- and how much you want -- I'll buy them off you (you can keep your old sweaty ear-tips though lol).

They are not a particularly grand model, could'nt really see the point on the bike but they do sound pretty reasonable none the less. I'll try and find out the model and i'll get back to you.

the model I have: SCL2. If you what to buy them off me that's cool but make sure (Shure) you can get some more slip on plug fitments first.

Don't get the Shure noise cancelling phones. Waste of money for what you get.

If you want general all around hearing protection then get a set of EAR ear plugs - I get mine from the rock shop

If you want custom fitted plugs for lugs and several other companies make them. The ones I had made a variety for different things, mine being the most taylored as I was wanting them to mute but give a completely flat response back so that I could mix loud rock concerts.

And the amount you need to lower the noise depends on how loud your pipes are. As a general rule a -10db drop will SOUND like it's quietr by half even though actually only a -3db drop is quieter by half.
