Advice needed for trip.

Hey guys and girls.

This friday will be my first looong open road trip. It's the three day easter ride. It's gonna be awesome for no only making new friends but gaining some valuable experience. Just need some advice regarding my two smoker. what is the best way to carry the two stroke oil i will need. I'm reluctant to just carry the 4 litre bottle in my backpack but might have to resort to that. I also have a 40l tank bag that I use. Would it be best to split the oil into smaller bottles and carry them in the tank bag with clothes and the such in the backpack. What are the essentials that I need to take on the trip, I'm contemplating carrying some extra spark plugs with my tool kit. Haha I just hope I don't get left behind as I love just cruising at 80 on the straights, means I get to see the scenery...and dodge any crap that pops up.

Forget the 4 litre, take a 1 litre and buy more if you need it. The reservoir tank will hold more than is needed for one tank of gas. If you're not sure how much you use, fill it from the 4 litre bottlle before you leave. Then at the first tank fill, top it up again and see how much you put in. I very much doubt if need to fill the reservoir that often on a regular basis.
A few spare plugs do come in handy, but a plug spanner (THAT FITS) and a piece of flattened wire to clean the inside of dirty plugs with will be the cheaper option.
Are you doing the tent option, Backpackers or friends/rellies.

We will be going to a backpackers. I was worried that there won't be anywhere to buy the two stroke oil from so it would be better to carry more than i require just in case.

Theres a big ass Honda dealer in Kaitaia. Hope they sell 2 Stroke oils if you run out...

Oh btw, it's easter eason. They might close for a whole day or two

Take 2 x 1 litre bottles. Do NOT buy 2 - stroke oil from a garage unless its suitable for use in a crank case injected, water cooled 2 stroke. A lot of the the oil that garages sell is designed for air cooled pre-mixed stuff (chain saws and so on) and the oil is different, only use it in an emergency. I can get almost Auckland Wellington return on what the bike tank holds on my 500, so you shouldn't need to much more than what your bike holds to tour around the north. If you need a plug I'll be amazed, but it doesn't hurt to carry one just the same. Oh, and if you are heading north, ride the road from Dargaville to Opononi - its a really nice stretch.

For my RG I would get 200ks out of a tank, and the resevoir would get 4 tanks max (although I would top it up every other time). Therefore with a 1L synth-oil in your tank bag you have a range of over 1500ks.
Most garages and the warehouse etc. will sell a 2-stroke oil that is marked suitable for 2-s bikes, and will do for a one-time fill if you are desperate. Just cahnge back to your 100% synth when you can.

Longest trip I did on mine was only about 200ks and my hands are still buzzing faintly from that. Great fun though.

Most garages sell outboard oil, even inland ones, most outboards are water cooled blah blah so take no notice of "its not good enuf fer yr bike" nonsense. Apart from your bike toolkit, take duct tape, puncture kit (maybe), spare bungees, ratchet and extension and 10mm, 12mm and 14mm sockets, make sure you can get your wheels off and on, chain oil and plastic cleaner for your screen visor etc. Before you go check for screws or nails in your tyres, give an oil and filter change (desirably but not nec), check chain tension.
Then go and enjoy yourself most of all. At night do a quick check of your bike for loose nuts, things falling off etc. Anything obvious.

Don't believe this...outboards run at a different temperature thats why they make different types of oil for different engines applications. But hey your pistons not mine....

RG's are watercooled.

RGV's are oil cooled.

Get ya facts right.

2x1 Litre's should be sweet, rather small as well.

Mobil has decentish oil at some place's. 2 Stroke fully synthetic stuff.

Cool as, i'll take two one litre bottles, plus a tool kit and some extra spark plugs plus the ratchet with extension and 12, 14 and 10 mm sockets and the spark plug socket. Yeah bout the vibrating, um one of my subframe bolts vibrated loose and fell out, I was wondering why she was rattling so much! I'll find a nut for it and put it back in. I'm also ordering in new sprockets and a new o/x ring chain. which is better for the rg, i'll be replacing them after the ride back. Just getting the new continental tires put on at the mo and scrubbed in for friday. Just got to remember to ride my own pace. Ya my rg is a watercooled beast.
