Im Ex-Airforce......used to be based at Whenuapai.......always had the ozzys coming over for a visit, specially when 2 Squadren was based at Nowra in Oz.
The Sqwarks are all sitting on the tarmac or in one of the hangers on Woodbourne, see them every day at work....crying shame...all because of that monkey fucker of a she male hitler clarke. Its because of her and her fucked up views I left the Air force and went to Oz....as a lot of us did....the MUTT.
never saw the vampires, that would have been cool.

I was involved in building a new hanger at omaka, right by the avgas pump for about 6 weeks, so I saw some pretty cool old pison engines.

I saw those chinese radial things (nanchang?) leave a couple of hours before,,,,

    It's an awesome sight, in'it?

I used to love the displays put on in when I was in Israel (several centuries ago), nightime barrel rolls along the border over the dead sea with afterburners on and the low level passes by Phantoms and Skyhawks in northen Israel, neat stuff and really got the adddrenalin going.

Mind you those bloody rockets that got fired back got the adrenalin going too, wasn't quite as pleasureable!

Our Artillery crews desperately need your input.

The F14s are in the process of being scrapped and are Carrier Based US Navy aircraft. Ain't no CVs anywhere NZ.
Would be awesome to have a F-111 flyby!

It's a shame about the F-14s - they are very cool looking fighterplanes, I'm tempted to say Iconic. But I guess they are pretty dated now a days.

An Aardvark? Are you sure... That's the F-111(F/G/H - or something like that) and are designed for electronic warfare (ECM) and target spotting (laser).

I thought they were pretty rare, even in the US. The most common ones are the F-111B I believe and they are fighterbombers...

Aardvark is the NATO designated 'nic' to describe that airframe....just a generic thing....dosent mean much. The Ozzys are the only country in the world to use this aircraft anymore in numbers, a few years back they bought up all the spare parts and as much of the tooling they could as the yanks no longer saw a use for them. This I was told by an ozzy groundy on squadren so I took it as gospel seeing as he worked on them all day everyday.

Once upon a time when I was very young I remember going along the desert road in my parents Mk1 Honda Prelude. In the tundra there was a Scorpion tank, and it passed us. I remember it getting air over a hillock. Incredible.

Then another time whilst driving near Ohakea, getting buzzed by about 3 or 4 airmacchi's in formation close to the ground, they just skimmed the top of some poplar trees and flew over the car. What a sight.

Then again, just before their retirement, sitting on a yacht in the marlbourgh sounds on a calm day then.. BOOM!! A skyhawk pops over the ridge, drops and imaginary bomb on my head and then goes over another ridge. A minute later it swoops over again banked over 90' and doing a tight turn right above my head that made my eyes water (It looked impossible).

    All gone now.

Odd this thread comes up, I'm pretty sure I saw a C-17 (Or maybe a C-5, but it was quite stubby) flying over wellington today.,
