Is Ultimate worth ten extra cents?

Some data I collected below, seems BP likes to charge like a wounded bull

I might be re-evaluating where I stop from now on, noting that most BP stops are either the Autobahn or Ngarawahia.

I don't care who I buy my petrol from at the moment - the NZ runs better on 91 anyway so it doesn't really matter! Tried ultimate in it once or twice - fuel mileage was always worse and it didn't perform quite as well. Bit of a no brainer, really.

I can't be arsed working out percentage wise from your figures but using 98 gives me around 15% better mileage then 95.I use Mobil 98 on principle that it's usually BP who put their prices up first.

Betty runs on 91, thank goodness, although she gets only about 10% better fuel mileage than my ex-wife's 1600cc station wagon with auto transmission.

My sem fiddy loves 98, and I'll happily pay the extra for it. Only bloody hassle is the closest 98 available is 160km from here

While at the same time making around double the power... it's a tradeoff I'd be happy with.

Nah... not quite twice. Betty makes about 98hp at the wheel, the Mazda probably puts out 75.

Then again, obviously power-to-weight ratios are a little different. Getting that station wagon doing 12-ish second standing quarter miles might take a fair bit of tuning...

Then again again, Betty's service intervals are twice as frequent.

Your getting ten percent more of something than your ex wife, well done that man.

Admit it JR, you keep Betty buzzin in the warp factor zone for instant interplanetary blast off, you know you could change up and save some petroleum distillate expense you just don't wanna. I get 450 K's to the tank, oh no wait thats miles, oh no metric crap, bugger me I'm suckin some gas.

I tried this amazing Ultimate today, and the poor Zonga went BANG

Backfires from hell, rough as guts and then couldn't hold an idle... so after 5 starts from stalling, the battery went so had to kick start her a few (dozen) times while trying to get back home for a fuel drain. All this in full getup, on the Port Hills, mid-afternoon. Fair to say the gear needs a good wash now!!!

So, long story short, I'll be stickin to 91 !!!!!
Missus: What the f*&k is that???!!!! Where the f*&k do you think that's going??
Me: It's a [insert old broken vehicle here] can't you tell?
Missus: Oh for f*&k's sake... [slams door]
Me: Phew, lucky she didn't see what's on the trailer!

I vary between 6 and 8.2 Litres per 100 Klicks depending on the savagery of the right wrist.

8.2 always seems to happen on SH22 for some reason

I've just done it on the calculator and the answer is 16.6. I have no friggin idea what the 16.6 aludes to but it sounds pretty economical don't it.
Yip I get 16.6 somethings outta my gsx1400, I'm happy with that.

Ahh! I got it, divide 100 by 16.6 gives me 6.25 litres per gallon, no per 100 k. oh bugger it!

There, I think I've proved mathematically that BP rip you off.
    Oh bugger

An excerpt: The octane number is not a measure of the energy contained in the fuel. High octane fuels have the same energy per litre as fuels with lower octane numbers.

The moral: Read your owners manual and use the recommended fuel.
Super/Premium does not necessarily mean better.

    A bit of difference

I have tried 91, 95 and 98 and it seems my old Bird loves 95 runs smoother and returns better k's. 91 is fine but she hates 98 runs like i left the choke on !!. I'll stick to 95 but hey run what ever your bike likes and she'll be sweet for some time
