    World MX

I saw in Fullnoise that Taupo MX club is hosting a big event next November with the drawcard of the worlds elite MX riders. Also the club will be running the world Junior MX in 2009.
Funny how I heard this from an Australian website - seems our press don't care. Or are completely incompetent at news gathering.

Sounds good been a while since ive watched some good racing at Taupo.

Im sure the NZ news people dont care about MX you very really hear anything, Its allways rugby this cricket that and then golf!. If i wanted to watch paint dry i would paint the fence dad has been bugging me to paint for years, not turn the TV on. lol.

For the amount of people that ride mx bikes in this country you would think they could follow more then 1 round of any supercross/mx event per year!

Time to get a RSS feed from bikesportnz.com ( Andy McGechan ) , they reported it in the weekend.

To be honest the odds on TV reporting that announcement are very minimal, maybe on a slow news day, to many unknowns ( who's riding mainly ), though the press should have picked it up.

Relax its very early days. I'm sure the Taupo club and MNZ will have someone responsible for informing mainstream media and publicity closer to the event. Even the Taupo clubs website mentions nothing about this event this early. Details would be very sketchy at this point and a mainstream media release would be very short on any worthwhile content. And it was mentioned in New Zealand's biggest newspaper yesterday, the Herald which you might not read. I agree the Wellington newpapers are a little short on content having lived down there for four years. Didn't catch the sport news on TV or radio yesterday so can't comment on those. But I often hear of MX news on both medias when everyone else is complaining that they don't get a mention so it could just be all the four $troke riders are just a little death.

I'm interested in what would be the draw cards for people to attend this event? For me in order off riders I wished to see in 2006 were Stefan Everts, Joel Smets, Ben Townley and Josh Coppins.
Everts and Smets are gone, Ben Townley would draw me to the event but if he was not riding it would have to be someone like Antonio Cairolli (unlikely though) to pull me in. Also unlikely that any of the top US riders would attend. I've already seen Coppins and the top NZ riders ride. And what are the chances that our two best riders will be fit and riding at the same time? If recent years are anything to go by it would be at best 50/50.
For those that went last time who did you most want to see? And who would you most want to see there this time? And who do you think would be the main draw cards?

I've known about the Junior champs for a while, gave the heads up to RacerX a couple of weeks ago as it was a strong rumor. I tend not to spread rumors until they are confirmed, but pass on reliable information when I get it.

Never under estimate the power of BT, I got an email from him recently - expect to see some BIG names here for Taupo!

This is clearly big news for NZ, hosting the Jnr World Champs, it will make the Tele, and in turn raise the profile even more. The Chad Reed SX series will be having a round here in NZ, Town to be confirmed - Most likely Auckland after the efforts of Sorenson!

Ben was the main reason i went, but definately the inclusion of Everts, Smets and Goncalves i think it was meant i was definately going. So with BT getting injured at that event, i would still like to see him ride against some overseas riders at Taupo. Could be hard getting any European riders here now with BT residing in the states, but i would like to see Phillipaerts and few others. I think basically any decent American riders will be a good drawcard for spectators. And i always enjoy watching Cooper, that fulla has got some balls and tons of skill. Groombridge is mean to watch at Taupo, whips everywhere. But there are heaps of new young kiwi riders in the senior class that are pretty awesome to watch. I'll be back there for sure

I'd like to go and see it too, but it coincides with Pan Pacific Masters games in Gold Coast - again - like last time.
Could someone go and see it for me - make my apoligies etc.
See you guys at Waiouru tomorow - watch out for the green machine
