That metal road is in mint condition at least until you get over the hill.

Makuri side was a quite deep until the country opened up a bit IIRC. Hmm must go have another squizz some time. You can come in from Ngawaparua through Kohinui as well.

Nup, You would have come to a fork in the road and taken the right hand option to go to Makuri, the left hand fork takes you through the lime stone quarry then on to the rising sun. An awesome hill climb, I practiced my super moto shit on that road many, many times. The quarry owner used to make me some primo tracks with his loader too, top blokes around that way

Indeed. I came in from the Makuri end, Coonoor, hang right, left before Waimiro, left onto Waipakito One of those point the bike in that direction and see where I end up rides.
Stopped at a farm house just to make sure I had my bearings correct. The sealed section out to Waipakito is a brill stretch of road. Pic of it in that 2004 post.

Yep, friendly types abound hehehe I really like those gravel roads, the wheels are rarely in alignment the whole time on the KX500 (esp with grooved road race slicks, yeah I know, I'm sick, but don't send help, I like being this way )

fantastic night to be out riding. Interesting kind of a day really.

Work this morning which is never a good way to start a day. Then I was surposed to do some welding for Yod and waited for him to show up to find he was a no show. Having trouble getting his bike going so I went over to have a look. Photos attached of the problem and the fix (pic 1&2) Took 2 fucking hours to work that one out!

Quick spin up to 86s which is a funtastic road. Mucked around with some cattle for a bit, talked some shit and then wombled home.

Monie had decided to have a ride tonight so I thought I was in for that. Turned out to be a fantastic ride. Had a great time chasing 86 around the countryside with The Yods in hot pursuit. Just to be nice I might mention the infamous corner 86 is proud of and reveal what really happened.

I was coming up to the last 2 corners on Halcombe hill with 86 right on my tail. I knew 86 loved these two corners so had to put my head down and concentrate or he would be roudn the outside and the hit on my ego would be near unforgettable. As I approached the corner I picked a line that I thought would be a quick way through. At 60m out I was feeling good and getting ready to tip the bike over. 50m and was lined up good for the corner. 40m and I remembered I dont have USD forks and doubt started to wander into my mind if I can go round corners with the forks the way they were. I thought I better air on the side of caution and braked to scrub off some speed. I think my brake light is actually green because that was all the invitation 86 needed. Back on the gas, bike banked nicely into the corner and a yellow daytona with WAY more corner speed going round the outside. Nice move. I probably could have taken the hit to the old ego but the Yods were not far behind and in a front row seat to see the whole thing. Oh the shame! But I did I mention I dont have USD forks?
Stopped at top of Halcombe hill for 86 to assume his rightful bragging rights and myself to think up some more excuses.
Up round to Vinegar hill and on the way back down we saw some evidence that Bonez may have been through during the day. (pic 3)
Swapped the 9 for Sarahs Daytona to ride back to Palmy. Poor super beast has a couple of issues and is really hard to ride right now so pretty sedate ride back.
Had hot chocolate, got attacked by marshmellows, talked shit, and then came home.

    Great day.

More photos up in the link in my sig.

Can you not just turn your one's up the other way?

You'd think that RSU should be better than USD any day - wouldn't it?
