Radar Detector Ban Law Change - Any News?

This proposal was announced last year. Any news on a timeframe for this and the change of demerit points?

This was bill that ws suggested. All beacuse the Govt wants something does not mean they get it. There is a due process.

I suspect the fines have already come down... a neighbour got a $65 fine for not wearing a seatbelt as he drove off a service station forecourt placing his belt on as he drove off.

Seatbelt fines used to be $150.

Serves him right for not riding a motorbike.

Yes, if he rode off without wearing his helmet it would have been much cheaper.

Yes wouldn't it be weird if we didn't have to wear helmets... lots of people at A&E for bug vs eyeball injuries!

On topic I noted the LTNZ factsheets are out of date re the changes.... assuming they have been implemented.

I am just looking into buying one and was talking to the guy from Radar Direct. He seemed to be saying they couldn't ban them due to consumer rights issues and a couple of other points. Anyway to sum it up he said it would be 2-3 or more years at least to get through all the committees etc required to make it law.
There is a few currentish models going for $3-600 on trade me so might head that way rather than spending the $1500-00 for the Beltronics and the full bike system he quoted. Parallel are selling Valentines for about $800-00 and Radar 2 go have the Passport 8500 X50 for $550-00 if you want new. And its as good as the Valintine from what I have read. You can make a simple ear plug attachment for very little according to a few other threads here.

Traffic laws are regulations, lower level and are passed by order in council, i don't think they go through differing hearing stages, minister pretty much gets his way.
