I have a vague feeling that I should add something noteworthy and thought-provoking to this thread, but I can't really come up with much, to be honest.

I probably shouldn't have stayed up until 2am this morning reading Harlan Ellison, but I'd forgotten how engaging his short stories were.

Er, on the topic of the comedian under discussion, he's quite typically American, isn't he? His humour has its merits, but on the whole, it's like being hit over the head with a wet brick wrapped in a whoopee cushion.

I have a sneaking suspicion that I could do better...

Still, if he's getting book sales and talk show appearances, it's working for him. Long live entrepreneurship!

Yes he is, but do we honestly believe that the man (and I use that description very loosely) at the centre of this discussion would think twice about going home and mentally or physically abusing any female that walks into the room, merely because she is in his castle?
He obviously feels quite comfortable spouting his opinion about women being stupid and subordinate in public, so I don't believe he would be any different behind closed doors, and would infact be worse. Abusers usually start out small; thoughts turn to name calling that often develops into outright emotional and/or physical abuse.
Actually I was quite surprised to hear him refer to Hitler in a negative way. I would've thought this guy would have been all over that shit! Sexism and racism are very close schools of thought I believe.

I just don't find this kind of "humor" funny, but think it's downright dangerous, even if it's said in a funny way, that it's ok to put others down over something they have no control over i.e gender, race, age etc. It's really not funny for people to think this is acceptable (and there would be people out there who would see this dick and think "Oh, it's ok to think women are all scum and we can treat them so, I'm not alone!" (Yeehaa)).

Again true, but she is pointing out the plight of women, not how women should be! The truth will release you, knowledge is power... and all that.

Edit: Seriously, I'm not out to get all up in everyone's faces about feminism etc, just don't think abuse is particularly funny and if attitudes that lead to abuse are allowed to prevail then the world turns into a shitty place for everyone. Over and outskies. guys and gals.
