To the ambo in bus #44

To the ambo in bus #44 tonight (10th April), thanks for picking my buddy up off the tarmac on the Tecoma St offramp.

He's at home now with a glass of good whiskey and his missus fussing over him.

And the full storey for those interested: Rider exiting motorway at Tecoma St, Cage pulls out from first road to head onto motorway southbound, bike clips rear of car.

The cop said it was the 2nd in 3 days, there - apparently its becoming a bit of a black spot. It always has been a badly designed offramp tho!

Bikes not bad actually, dent in the tank and it needs new LHS Peg + gear linkages. I rode it home for him - stuck in 4th gear!

    Anyway, St Johns Man, Thanks!

Glad to hear he's all good - the crew will appreciate hearing kind words.

I've had a couple of close calls there myself, its the bastards not stopping at the stop sign to give way to the traffic coming off the motorway. So now when I exit at Tecoma I always look to that side street and prepare for an emergency stop.

Perhaps they need to stop traffic entering the motorway from that side street and traffic diverted to the next street down?

    Hope your mates OK.

Funny that it's "becoming a black spot" but you never see anyone policing the stop sign, despite the cop-shop being 10 meters away!

Glad your mates ok (well, ok enough for booze and women)....

    Confused..

I know that intersection well and go through it a bit... but I don't get where you mean....????

Bowled coming off the North Bound off ramp and turning right towards Barrys Pt Rd, or further down towards the Barrys Pt Intersection??

A map of the dodgy spot would be great if anyone can be arsed...
It wasn't me, it was like that when I found it. Honest.

    Thumbs up Yeap

    Yeap..

Bike is in worse shape than me luckily, just a bit of bruising nothing broken, be right as rain in a week or so.

I ride down that offramp every day wondering when that was going to happen. Its almost happened a few times before, I've always managed to either miss, or they've stopped half way out leaving me enough room to get by.

I was literally 200mm away from missing him. The tip of my right handle bar clipped the very back corner of his boot. and spun me out, threw the bike sideways and onto its left side (with me still on)

Such a nasty spot, maybe they'll do something about it but i guess its too much paperwork for the g'ment.

At least the guy stayed I wasn't really in a state to remember his number plate.

Thanks to everyone who helped me out!

Hi Sharkdog and welcome to the site!!
I have lodged a formal complaint with the council. the problem is that according to there statisics there have only been 15 recoreded accidents in the last 6 years there?!?!? hard to believe i know!
but anyways if you do the same as me then that make two of us that have complained and iam going to post a thread to see if anyone else can do the same. i would really like to see this dangrous intersection closed!

    Hey Speedie,

Yeah bike is pretty much sweet. It was a pretty slow and gentle really.. Broken left footpegs, gear shifter, graze on tail fairing, grazed clutch and both tips of handle bars, grazed pillion pegs, few other little grazes....

Yeah, waited for a reasonably long time, had an xray. Nothing broken, just a lot of swelling, and it still hurts pretty bad now. Nothing but time can heal it really. I have no muscle strength in it. Can just lift a bottle of beer.

Although if i keep the joints locked i can do most things (like mix concrete for winters back yard)

Yeah the dude looked like he felt pretty stink about it.. (he should!) - he'll probably get careless driving causing injury. but considering the injury was pretty minor he'll get off lightly. (i said if possible he should recommend for diversion, i'd rather his fine went to a deserving charity than the cops xmas party fund)

Yeah the copper was a good bloke, he took my bike off to their yard to store it safely. Then i came back that night and picked it up and had a good chat at the station. (winter got it home for me it still rides, although engine a bit lumpy and left indicators blown) (accident just down the road from my house)
