Let me know when ya get the tape Borg so I can have a look.
Will do. Mate, this guy's gotta be thicker than a foot thick steak sandwich to think he could break the lock and get it started, so don't count on the fact that he wouldn't have tried your bike had it bean there at the time. I figured your bike can't have been there and you'd ducked out because I'm sure I would have heard about it otherwise. Scott saw him and the guy didn't even bat an eyelid apparently.

He will go to jail and get a training course on how to do it properly next time! Bastards. John.

That sucks mate!! I know how you feel!... they didnt get mine but caused a lot of damage to it late last year!

surely with all these thefts... maybe police 10-7 might be interested??? maybe? you know how they do 'hot spots' for house robberies etc...
Have seen people post up pics of people stealing their bikes... surely there is enough of us on here who have had bikes stolen or attempted thefts to justify a few minutes on the programme.

Edit: someone may recognise the theif... dob them in... etc... it seems to work for dairy robberies/petrol station ones too... so why not us?

    Excellent Idea!

I have just emailed the police section that deals with the program.

If they want the video I am most happy to provide it as long as I'm legally able to do so. I don't own the video, and there may be other legal implications. If I'm free to use it then I'll also post it to youtube and place a link in this thread too.

    Ok cool,

There is a few videos available - not just yours that they would be interested in.

I emailed them with links to all the 'stolen bike' and 'attempted' threads, as well as a bit of a nudge about how a bunch of angry bikers catching one of these guys would not end well for the thief.

    Will keep everyone updated.

Just for a bit of perspective:

I know of at least 7 bikes stolen in the past 2-3 weeks and at least 4 'attempts' in the same time frame.

Im going outside and chaining myself to my bike.

Pffft - there is a difference in the type of bikers people refer to.

The people who steal the bikes are generally the bad bastards. Being the criminal element they probally have big ugly friends as well.

Lets face it KB 'bikers' arn't like Hells Angles, the Mongrel Mob etc. Portraying KB as a bunch of hard arse bikers who will come around to your house and 'sort people out' is blatant false advertising.

White helmet? The fella that was stealing bikes at Auckland Uni months ago was also wearing a white helmet. Could be the same person. But I hope we catch the person before more bikes become involved.

    Reply from Police:

    Hi Dan,

This is a bit alarming, I'm a Harley owner myself. Actually we've only had three motorcycles reported stolen on the North Shore between the 1st of February 2008 and today. The number could be a bit higher as reporting of stolen but unregistered bikes (eg. trail bikes and quads etc) is "patchy". About 90% of registered bikes are reported to us if they are stolen however.

This figure covers the North Shore city boundaries.

Compared to cars, a lot less stolen bikes are ever found as they get stripped more easily and often have the I/D swapped and they are re-sold or used by the thief. Because of this we are anticipating a rise in motorcycle thefts to match the sales increases due to the cost of fuel.

    Kind regards

Les...As a Harley Davidson owner I'm sure you'll welcome this caller's request, altho I'm not
sure he has the figures correct for number of motor cycles being stolen on the North Shore..!

Could you arrange for a staff member to respond to the caller direct about the status of thefts
on the North Shore...there's certainly an option open for profiling such thefts on Police 10-7 too.

Another option is via Crime Scene in NZ Herald.

Gabrielle - for your reference and possible interest in profiling recent thefts of motor cycles.

LOL You've met a few of the online heavies then??? LOLOL!!!!

...oh you are so right in what you write. Them that really can do the damage are the ones that don't talk about it. The online menacing is a joke.
