    What bike for nowhere-land?

I've discovered a new passion; Traveling the most pointless, pothole strewn, cowshit covered back country roads I can find.I don't use a map I just keep riding till I get to somewhere that resembles civilisation and make my way home from there.

    It's really cool,the nice people I meet,the road kill,the scenery,the retarded Banjo players.Oh no that was a film I watched.

Anyway,I've got a GSX1400 and it's brill on the distance stuff and the long sweepers, wont be giving that up anytime soon but if I'm honest it aint a 50kph gravel track and dogcrap road to hell type of beast.

I got room in my garage and some money on my hip but I don't have a clue what bike would be best suited to these wonderful hideous roads.

Cheap and robust is good, with a decent fuel tank.Lightweight because I'm a realist and I will be pulling it out a cows arse before long.semi knoblies I think.

$ 10k ish . What's your ideal bike for the badlands please?
    Oh bugger

Here's the bike for you Marty
To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and to endure the betrayal of false friends. To appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded

    A plastic maggot up a moo moo's arse, there's a mental image.

Little to no phone reception where this baby's going so I need to be able to kick a few things back into place and ride on. I hardly see another soul out there, except GI Joe going in circles, so no help either.Need lots of petroleum distillate capacity,no fairing.

Yup the two of them was on BMW sponsered bikes and the camera man was on a shitty old Honda, which was the only one to break down, in Mongolia I think. The other two bikes was BMW R 1150 GS Adventure. Check out the website:

I need to get my DVDs off Kev and you should come up for a gander.

    DR650?
Stock tank isn't huge, but they are about $9k brand new, so that would give you spare change for a larger tank.

XT600. Or DR650. XT doesn't have huge tank, but it gets about 250K to reserve, probably 300K till empty. DR is probably about the same.

I also recommend air cooled. Radiators is fragile things.

If you don't have to cover 100km or so of seal before finding those nice back roads, then a 400 is even better.

Thanks Ixion, That's the down side,I've got to do 'normal roads' as well to get where I'm going so it's still gotta be decent enough to hold it's own in the real world.

Have a look in the Adventure/Dual Purpose forum, there is lots of info about DRs and similar bikes in there, and people who can answer your questions.
