Had my sv650 2 years now -put 18k on it. fuel use has consistently been around 63 mpg 22km/l. Twice now it threw in a 75mpg 28 k/l (different times). No change in riding.. destinations etc. Has this happened to you? Wouldn't mind keeping the 75mpg going if I could figure out whats doing it!

Yeah these mid-size vtwins are great on the gas ay. Mine does around 65-70mpg.

I seem to get 14-15km/l consistently on my VL1500LC Intruder regardless of how I ride (equates to about 180kms between 12 Litre fills, that is when the low fuel light comes on). What are other large V-Twin cruisers getting?

Air gets denser and it gets colder, so more fuel needs to be added to compensate. So, in theory, the lower the temp sensed by the IAT, the more fuel the ECU adds. So perhaps it was really hot weather?Originally Posted by DangerousBastard

The Sprint gives me 65 mpg under normal open road riding conditions.
What fuel are you using? I've been told that the 98 octane fuel returns better fuel mileage due to it having higher calorific value - in other words more energy per litre. Can't really comment as BP doesn't stock it in Taranaki and we don't have Gull (whose 96 is reputed to be understated).

Wow, my sv650sk7 seems to get 15 - 17km/l around town. Perhaps I enjoy the loud control too much

at a rough as estimate my bike gets 13l/km on average. ~10km each day in 50k area, semi dense traffic, 5 min idling, and 30k of motorway.
my cbx was about a third the fuel usage for the same route. haha

Probably the most-part of the variation is down to noise rather than real - partially filling one trip then getting a lower figure then filling to the brim and getting a very high fig. the next.
If you keep a fuel economy spreadsheet (as I do ...) you see patterns like that. The overall 2 year average for me currently is 51.9mpg, with statistical artifacts giving fasle spikes sometimes as low as 44 and high as 62mpg. Sometimes real differences can be seen for long trips, fast trips or pillion.

The road king does 15.5 to 16.5 km/l on the open road depending on the speed I go. Not bad considering it weighs 340kg.
